Engine Company No. 4, built in 1888, served as part of the Covington Fire Department until it was converted in the early 1980's. It was the last of the old time firehouses before it closed. The firemen knew everyone in the neighborhood and answered about 450 alarm calls each year. The front facade was adorned with 2 cast horse heads that are the symbol for the fire department. Each year the fireme

n would hang their predicted KY Derby winners names on the horse heads for all of Main Street to see. The original horse heads were removed when the firehouse closed and were relocated to the fire house on Scott Street where they still hang proudly today. Fast forward and opportunity arose for the property to be converted into a residence. Around 1983 the old fire house was converted into the residence it is today. At that time, the owner made 2 apartments on the upper floor, one in front and one in back. The security door in between the units can be opened up so that the entire space can be used as one living area. The first floor is used for an enormous garage that can house 6-8 cars and has a roomy laundry area. On the back of the building, stairs and decks were added for separate entry. The apartments are set up with lofty ceilings, skylights and original wood floors. A previous owner was a potter and made all the tiles in the kitchens and bathrooms.
