Pulled some of my Toolar x Ai babies out of their 30g bin from Siserah’s Aquatic Escape to get updated pictures. We have full front legs and back feet/leggies starting. These guys will be ready for homes once they're 3" from nose to end of tail.

Good Sunday Morning everyone! I come bearing news I am OUT of lotls currently but will have some gorgeous full lineage Dirty Leucies produced by Beck'sandjo'slotls in the coming month or so (some will be held back to gender unless Lizzy’s Lotyls releases the testing sooner) as well as a wide range of Phenotypes from on the Toolar x Ai (phenomenal lineage) produced by Siserah’s Aquatic Escape.

Love receiving in "surrenders" like this. These are siblings to my RGL copper baby Paris Hilton. The plan with them is to finish growing them out to gender confirmation and if either is female they will be rehomed to Louisville Axolotls program to expand their gene pool.

Meet "Tattoo" one of the most uniquely marked axolotls I've seen. These markings seem to be a new poly-gene passed on by the father! I have big plans for this little buddy in a year or so!

♀️ "Raspberry" a dark pigmented Leucy produced by us here at The Mottled Lotl. She is het Mel, Axanthic Albino and 50% chance for Hypomelanistic
Mom- "Strawberry" a dark gilled dirty Mel Leucy het everything but Hypomelanistic we received from Brittany June Holster
Dad- "Cafe Mocha" a Wild-Type het all but Albino from Northern Axolotls "Alexander" and "Rose" this pairing has also produced some very dark pigmented Leucies and some gorgeous Hypomelanistics.

Mom- "Blueberry Pied" a very dark pigmented Leucy aka Piebald owned by "Brianna Allman" het Albino. She got her from a person who received her from a breeder in Kentucky with only a hatch date of May 2021.
Dad- "Gru" a Super Dirty Leucy produced by Orion's Axolotls and owned by "Mindy Plake" het all but Hypomelanistic. His mom is called "Asteroid" a dirty Leucy with a big black spot on her head received from a local person in Florida. His dad is called "Leviathan " a dirty Leucy produced by Kloudnine Axolotls from a lotl named "Galaxy" she called a piebald and "Sasuke" a Copper Leucy from Duel Exotics and produced by Jennifer Watts

This is Lemon Drop is an approx 3.5" gfp dirty Leucistic. Lemon drop is on a nice blend of chopped nightcrawlers and frozen brine. Super active and will wait with head in the air for you to feed. You can do tong feeding or dropa. Pile of worms in there and this little one is happy. NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR SAND BOTTOM

Possible Hets from clutch: leucy, dirty leucy, axanthic leucy, mel leucy, copper, axanthic copper, mel copper, axanthic mel copper, mels that range from light to dark, axanthics that range from light to dark, and wilds. Last clutch was 65% leucys (different varieties)

Cupid (high iridorph white) came from Northern Axolotls Her mother was "Dapples", a dark gilled dirty leucistic from Oliver Perry ( Mom and Dad were Copper and Melanoid). Her dad is "Patina", a very dark masked leucistic from The Axolotl Factory. Clutch laid December 2020

Vishnu (light axanthic) is from Strohls white axanthic line (het copper, mel, white) hatched January 2021

Here is a super brief breakdown of the biggest broken rules of axolotl ownership. This isn’t meant to shame anyone. We all make mistakes and we do see them often. That’s ok! We are always here to help and will send our care sheet to anyone interested.

1. Cycling a tank is not an option. It must be cycled before putting your axolotl in. This is why we have tubbing kits available. They help keep your babies happy at home while the tank cycles.

2. No gravel or rocks. No sand before they are over 5.5 inches. If eaten the axolotl will become impacted if they don’t pass it.

3. Keep them cool. They cannot handle heat at all. Clip on fans work great for us. Chillers are great as well.

4. 20 gallons minimum for one axolotl for their permanent home. Add an additional 10 gallons per axolotl.

5. Test your water weekly. Just because it was cycled a month ago doesn’t mean it still is.

6. Don’t skip water changes. If you crash your cycle you’ll have to start all over.

7. Don’t house male and females together. They will have babies. Don’t put adults with baby axolotls. They will get eaten.

A friendly reminder that axolotl are illegal in California, Washington DC, Maine, and New Jersey. In Hawaii and New Mexico they require a special permit. They all have their specific reasoning as to why they are illegal. As much as we hate saying no to families in these areas breaking the law would shut us down and cause the animal to be confiscated indefinitely.
