Is your dog happy and engaged when you ask it to work with you?

If your trainers first step to teaching a behaviour is to slap on a bunch of tools and go heavy into compulsion training, I'd really press you to explore other options.

Tools such as prong collars, e-collars, etc are wonderful and have a place in training, but they should never be step one.

If your dog does not enjoy training with you, it is time to make a change.
