Meet our patient, Whistler, a 1-year-old Golden Retriever who was rescued by the Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas. He visited MedVet Dallas for evaluation of a chronic left radius/ulna fracture and a right tibia fracture. To ensure his long-term comfort, our team recommended surgery as part of Whistler's treatment plan. Our skilled surgeon, Dr. Betzy Acevedo, performed a successful surgery to fix Whistler's tibia fracture.

We're thrilled to share that Whistler's radiograph recheck appointment confirmed he is doing exceptionally well and was cleared to resume his normal activity — way to go, Whistler! 👏

Some steps you can take to help your pet with osteoarthritis:

Today, on Melanoma Monday, we join the efforts to raise awareness about the signs of this dangerous cancer in pets.

Malignant melanomas often manifest in areas like the lips, mouth, eyes, or nail beds, but with early detection and treatment, there is a high chance of successful outcomes.

If you notice any signs of melanoma in your pet, reach out to your veterinarian for guidance and consider requesting a referral to a Veterinary Oncologist.

MedVet Oncology treats several types of cancers, including melanoma. For a list of MedVet Oncology locations, visit:

Upon evaluation, Dr. Betzaida Acevedo recommended a bilateral perianal hernia repair, colopexy and cystopexy. During surgery, it was also discovered that Fajitas had ingested a foreign body requiring a gastrotomy.

We are delighted to report that Fajitas has recovered well at home. Fajitas’ resilience and the expertise of our surgical team have played a vital role in his journey to better health.

When Maggie was brought to the Surgery department at MedVet Dallas with an abdominal mass, our skilled team performed an abdominal exploratory surgery to remove the mass, revealing a diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma (a highly invasive variety of cancer that occurs almost exclusively in dogs.)

Given her diagnosis, Maggie began her chemotherapy journey under the care of our Medical Oncology team, receiving chemotherapy treatments every three weeks.

We are thrilled to share this heartwarming video capturing the moment Maggie received her last chemotherapy treatment. Maggie's strength and the dedication of our team have brought her to this milestone, and we couldn't be prouder.

Lily toxicity is more common in warmer months, particularly for cats. Some types of lilies will cause local irritation to the mouth while others can cause kidney failure.

If your cat has eaten a lily, take them and the plant to your veterinarian, or a pet ER like MedVet, to help determine the best course of action and start immediate treatment if needed.
