"While all dogs need plenty of mental and physical “energy releases”, there are times when they really just need to fulfill a “sense of purpose”
Source: TheDogspeaks.

By factual definition, greyhounds are consummate hunters and chasers of prey, and do so via their keen sight and aerodynamic bodies. It is their purpose in nature. They know nothing of the concept of money - just the thrill of the chase. The tired rhetoric of "It's cruel to use animals for entertainment and money" makes no sense. If they were "used" for money, then it stands to reason that they would be highly valued and thus extremely cared for and about. If one doesn't care for wagering on anything, state it as such. It's merely an opinion for one's self. No one has a right to force personal opinions on anyone else, unless that force is reciprocated. Likewise, since there is an intrinsic value within the breed to hunt and chase (fulfilling their purpose) why would you deny them that satisfaction? Is it actually selfish and possibly even cruel to deny an animal or breed an outlet to satisfy that purpose? Even more specific, why would a human wish to deny any animal fulfilling its sense of purpose, and being happy? Is it time to use a rational mind rather than buy into hysterical propaganda, intentionally skewed statistics, and rhetoric that has already been disproven? "Listen" to the dogs. THEY will reveal what satisfies them and gives each of them their own sense of purpose.

Do these young racing greyhounds look unhappy to you? Do they look fearful of their caretakers? Of course not, because they aren't. Why would you want them to look anything less than happy, loved, and satisfied? Do you know what a happy, healthy animal's body and body language looks like? The greatest danger to Greyhounds is not the fact that they love to run and chase a stuffed toy around a sandy course. It's the lies and propaganda driven by organizations who count on you hitting a donate button to pay their own salaries and travel the world on your dime. You WORK , and then they PLAY with your money. Does that sound honest to you? Just look at their tax returns for proof.

DOGS DON'T LIE.
What's the quickest way to aggravate the political lobbying organization, Grey2K, which seeks to eradicate these Greyhounds? By showing authentic photos of what greyhounds really look like behind the scenes, of course.
G2K and their animal rights partners, such as HSUS and PeTA, resort to deceit and outright lies about the lives of greyhounds at the track in order to falsely garner your sympathy, then use it to get your Donations, which in turn, pays their salaries.
Keep in mind that they:
-do NOT own nor operate a single greyhound placement facility.
-are NOT hands-on with racing or retiring greyhounds in the USA.
-have to steal and alter photos because they don't have their own.
-Have been forced to admit that the true advocates of the dogs, the vast majority of the greyhound adoption community, supports the sport of racing.
-uses deceptive/out of context statistics to fool you.

Don't fall into their trap to prop up their salaries and world traveling lifestyles.
JUST SAY NO to Grey2K, PeTA, HSUS, and all of their te****le organizations. Check out their tax returns before giving a penny, if you really want to know where the money you give actually goes.

OFFICIALLY Transfer your NGA greyhound pet into your name! Online! And we will donate $10 to adoption!

Any tattooed NGA bred greyhound can be registered as a pet greyhound, regardless of whether they were registered as a racing individual or not. We can also retroactively transfer greyhounds that may have passed on over the rainbow bridge. This would be a nice way to honor yours (and our) NGA greyhounds past, present and future. (PS. Please doublecheck tattoos before submitting)

My enemy is not you, the public armed with actual facts. My enemy is not my breeder and caretaker. My enemy is not reputable Greyhound adoption organizations which are ever present from my birth through adoption. My enemies are the opinionated, and not the fact driven. They are the elitist, extremist, cancel culture organizations which seek to decimate me and my breed. They seek not only to eradicate professional chasing and racing, but also animal agriculture. They seek to decimate hunting. They seek to decimate zoos, dog sledding, bull riding, rodeos, aquariums, and more. They seek your donations to pay their salaries, pay their bills, and to travel the world. Those are the enemies to my very existence.

What is the Bottom Line on Greyhound and Other Animal care?

Did you know that licensed veterinarians are behind the scenes with the greyhounds at the track every time they are running? Did you know that licensed veterinarians physically exam greyhounds up to 30 times per month? Did you know this information is verifiable?
Do you know who does none of the above? HSUS, Grey2K, PeTA, and all of their fringe friends.
The bottom line is which do you use to care for your beloved pets? A licensed veterinarian, or a radical cult group?

Don't use backward logic which leads to backward conclusions. Greyhounds aren't in such high demand by their adopters because they come to them as pathetic basket cases that took years of intense de-programming and rehab to finally emerge years later as the svelte, stately-yet-silly pets that they are. They do not need any "super savior" extremist social movements to intervene on their behalf. They are, quite simply, great because of their past experiences - not in spite of them. Thoughtful breeding, great rearing, and knowledgeable training are what makes greyhounds great in retirement.

When you use logic and facts rather than relying on being spoon fed highly inaccurate tales and false emotional hysteria, you'll not only better serve and understand the greyhounds, but you'll also have the added benefit of being considered an intelligent, critically thinking person in possession of logic and common sense.

THE GREYHOUND COMMUNITY: Who we are and who we are not:

Honoring and advocating for sporting and working dogs is NOT wrong. It is the recognition of what each specific breed loves and thrives on doing. From birth through adoption, American Racing Bred Greyhounds are given the opportunity to do what they love in the safest and most regulated manner possible. The greyhound community is a culmination of all who are hands-on and hearts-in actual caretakers that love this breed, and has an astounding success of nearing 100% placement of retiring greyhounds, even those that do not choose to chase. The remaining few return to their owners/breeders. Our beloved greyhounds are always, from birth forward, ensured of loving homes and this is accomplished with the dedication and cooperation of both racing and adoption. This Greyhound Community success story is the one that should be told loudly and celebrated proudly, not the fake side show hysterics of money pocketing entities such as HSUS, PeTA, and Grey2K.

When you see "Greyhounds are forced to Run" you should understand this one simple FACT:
This is what FREEWILL looks like to a greyhound.
Once the starting boxes open, any racing greyhound, anywhere, at any time, can choose to go in any direction. They can run to the side and play and roll on the grass. They can run to the nearest human. They can just stand there, if they so choose.
The fact is a greyhound cannot be forced to run. They choose to do so because even a dictionary will tell you that they are, by nature, born chasers. There is no human pushing them, running behind them, sitting on top of them, nor anyone in front of them pulling them along. They run and chase because of one simple, logical fact: they love to run and chase. The great part about professional Greyhound Racing is that they are provided a manicured, sandy surface with no obstacles, and are under the constant scrutiny and care of state regulators and licensed veterinarians with every single run they make. Do dog parks offer this? Woods? Backyards full of obstacles everywhere and oftentimes with holes and divets, and rocks?

The answer is NO.

"I am sure there will be a lot of sad people, people stop me all the time and ask, Can you keep it going?" - Iowa Greyhound Park GM Brian Carpenter

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that 2022, will be the last year of Live Greyhound racing, at The Iowa Greyhound Park, marking an end to era that began more than 35 years ago.

The Iowa Greyhound Park started in 2015, after reaching a settlement agreement with Q Casino and Hotel and the casino in Council Bluffs, allowing them to sever ties with the greyhound industry in Iowa and allowing them to organize as the Iowa Greyhound Association. The subsidies from these two casinos end in 2021 for Q Casino, and in 2022 for Council Bluffs.

The Iowa Greyhound Park has made great strides in promoting and increasing the handle each year with a sizeable increase in each of the seven years it has operated, including this year which is expected to be roughly 6 million more than in 2021.

Details for next year’s schedule will be clearer after the upcoming Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission meeting on October 21, 2021 to consider the application for next year.

However, here is what we know as of now –

- Live Racing will continue thru October 31st for the 2021 Live Racing Season.
-
- Simulcast wagering will be available during the winter months on Greyhound, Thoroughbred and Harness tracks from across the country on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
-
- There will be live racing in 2022, exact dates, times and months will be determined later this winter.
-
- The Iowa Greyhound Park will be sending out its signal to OTBS and wagering sites around the world in 2022.

The Iowa Greyhound Park will continue to post updates on our page and our website – www.igaracing .com - as they become available.

The Iowa Greyhound Park and The Iowa Greyhound Association, would like to thank everybody for their understanding and commitment to Greyhound racing during this transition. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Iowa Greyhound Park during the remainder of the 2021 season and the upcoming 2022 season.

If you have questions, please contact The Iowa Greyhound Park at 563-231-3100 x 104.

To all those who attended this year's reunion and took pictures would you please be so kind as to share them on this page. I would like to put them all into a single album for this year's reunion. TIA

06/02/2021

I'm still trying to recover from the busy weekend. I just wanted to thank everyone who attended this year's reunion, all the people who donated items, all of my awesome volunteers, my awesome boss Brian Carpenter for helping out any way he could, and Stidham-Brindle kennel, Xtrem Hess Racing, and Oxbow-Plum Creek kennel for graciously opening their doors and allowing visitors into their kennels and talking about what it's like working every day with these magnificent athletes and answering everyone's questions. Without all of you this event wouldn't be the success it is.

In accordance with the updated CDC guidelines, The Iowa Greyhound Park will no longer require guests who have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to wear a mask while visiting the facility.

We do ask that guests who have not been fully vaccinated, to continue to wear a mask while on the property, as recommended by the CDC.

It is our hope that by working together we can continue moving forward to a full recovery.

The above also applies when entering the Q Casino.

Ask these 3 "organizations" how much money they have profited from and pocketed off the backs of animals. Go ahead. Ask them.

GREYHOUNDS: Fact Building and Myth Busting - It's got to be the paws.

-"They (the racing greyhound caretakers) burn the dogs' pads to make them run faster."
-"They also cut or scrape off the racers pads to make them run fast."
-"They put rocks between the toes of the dogs to make them run."

As astounding as it may seem, there are people walking around saying comments such as those above. So let's address a few facts:
1. A licensed veterinarian is required to examine every dog running a race. One of the very first things a vet would notice is a dog refusing to walk, or is limping and bleeding.
2. The FACT is that any dog with burned pads, pads that are scraped off, cut pads, raw pads etc., will limp, be bleeding, and likely refuse to walk - much less run at speeds up to 45mph.
3. We cannot even figure out the third one. How does one keep rocks between the toes of any dog, if a trainer was stupid enough to put them there in the first place? How would that make a dog run faster? Could you run with rocks between your toes or placed in your shoes?
4. There are literally thousands of videos of racing greyhounds being led out to the starting boxes. None will be limping or refusing to walk.

Ignorance, lies and pure fallacy can be easily disproven once common sense and medical facts kick in. Don't fall for silliness and stories that just don't make sense. Choose to be armed with facts and medical sources instead, and remember, if you're being lied to about this, what else are you being lied to about regarding the greyhounds?

The sites below and many more describe in detail the debilitating effects of burned, cut, scraped, and injured paw pads on a dog:

https://naturaldogcompany.com/burned-dog-paws/
"Your dog is limping, or completely refusing to walk"

https://www.doghealth.com/care/safety/2394-paw-pad-burns-in-dogs
"Paw pad injuries and burns are painful, so your dog is likely to attempt to avoid walking on them, resulting in a limp and decreased moving around."

https://www.petassure.com/new-newsletters/paw-problems/
"Symptoms of a Paw Injury:

bleeding

limping

holding the injured paw off the ground

discoloration of the pad (difficult to see if the paws have a very dark pigmentation)

excessive licking and/or chewing of the paw."
