The Lakeshore Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to helping protect the welfare of all animals and providing humane education to our community. The organization was established in 1980 under the name of The Dunkirk Humane Society, later renamed as we expanded our area of service to include the entire north end of Chautauqua County. We strive to get funding throug

h donations and grants to support our spay/neuter assistance program and to help us pay for operating costs, primarily veterinary bills. As always, we are very thankful to our generous sponsors who enable us to continue our work in the community. All money raised or donated stays in our community and helps animals in need. Animals in the care of The Lakeshore Humane Society are housed at our adoption center at 431 East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. Space restricts the number of animals in our care at any given time it does enables us to get to know each animal better, leading to more successful pairings with new owners. All animals leaving our care must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption and owners are required to sign an adoption contract detailing our standards of care for their new pet. Animals that are deemed too young to be altered are provided with a voucher that covers the cost of surgery. A reasonable donation is required at the time of adoption. Anyone interested in bettering the welfare of animals is welcome to join our organization. There are many ways you can help the animals and us. We meet the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in our adoption center located at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY. Our phone number is: 716-672-1991. Our mail address is 431 E. We are going to have many adoption days throughout the year when we will be open on different Saturdays for people to come , look, meet and adopt their four-legged family member. This is actually Munchie and Cole. Come and meet them at our open hours today from 12 to 3pm. We have 20+ kittens and many nice adult cats looking for homes. They are fixed, all shots, wormed, flea treated and microchipped for only $60 if over 5 months old and $75 under 5 months. Hope to see you today!

Say hello to Misty! Misty is a gorgeous Siamese/tabby mix with icy blue eyes. She is around 7 years old. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly and loves human attention. She’s very calm and laid back and is accustomed to being around other cats. She can be picked up and does enjoy sitting in your lap once she gets to know you. Meet Peanut Butter! She is a Golden mix puppy who is approximately 4 and a half months old. Peanut Butter is friendly and outgoing. She loves running in the LHS yard with other dogs. Peanut Butter is an energetic dog who needs an active owner. She would be a great family dog to take on adventures. Peanut Butter does need work with basic commands and leash walking. Please make sure you have the time, energy and patience to dedicate to a puppy. All of our LHS dogs are up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered & microchipped. This beautiful girl is named Jade. She’s a 4 month old mix breed puppy. Jade is a very sweet girl who is nervous about everything right now. Jade would benefit being around another well behaved dog that she can learn from and gain confidence. Older children would be best with her. Jade has been around cats and does well with them. Jade will need some work with basic commands and leash walking. Please make sure you have the time, energy and patience to dedicate to a puppy. Meet Mooney! Mooney is a calm and sweet year and a half old male. He’ll be the first to come and greet you when you come to visit his kennel. He lives with others at the shelter and gets along well with them. He’d love to find his furever home with you. Keon is a typical puppy, playful and very energetic. His new owner needs to be up to the task of training a new puppy. Please make sure you have the time, patience and energy to dedicate to him. Clyde is a handsome hound mix that is approximately 2yrs old. He came to us as an unclaimed stray who was found running with his companion Bonnie.( We would offer a special adoption fee if you were interested in both) Clyde is a very friendly & energetic boy with a comical personality. He is dog selective and does better with female dogs. Clyde has been working on leash walking and basic commands, so his new owner will need to continue this with him. He would make a great running or hiking partner. Clyde is a perfect companion for an active , outdoorsy owner. ADOPTED!!! Meet Sam! Shockingly Sam was another unclaimed stray. He was picked up full of fleas and neglected. Sam is approximately 7yrs old and is a shih tzu/ terrier mix. He is a friendly, lovable guy who loves being around people. Sam likes to go for walks and is a great walking partner. He seems to enjoy being with other dogs and children. Say hello to Amber! Amber is a beautiful 4 month old orange female kitten. Her mama was feral so Amber can be a little shy at first but seems to like attention and affection after a short warming up period. Amber lives with other kids her age at the shelter and they all get along great! Our fabulous basket raffle prizes were a major attraction at the Yard Sale. If you didn't get enough, stop down to the LHS Adoption Center during adoption hours to take a chance on 10 great prizes. Drawing will take place on September 29 following the Dog Walk.

WOW!!! Look at the basket raffle taking place at our yard sale this weekend at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds! Yard sale is Friday 9-4pm for early bird shopping with a $3 admission, Saturday 9-4pm & Sunday 9-3pm with free admission both days.

Bramble, Bramble, Bramble…..what are we going to do with you? Bramble can be a very loving and affectionate cat who will sit in your lap for cuddles and pets, but he seems to have some pent-up anxiety he has trouble dealing with without stalking and attacking other cats, or, if he gets over stimulated, attacking and biting people. Bramble does not deserve to be sent back to a shelter, so he is currently in a loving and patient foster home for however long it takes, but it is not fair to the resident cats when he stalks and attacks them so time around others needs to be highly supervised and is becoming more and more limited. He is a social boy and likes being in the company of humans, but has proven that he just can’t be trusted around other cats, so he’s needing to be isolated more and more often. Resident cats are stressed and scared of him and it’s affecting their well being and behavior. He is able to be isolated in a large area so he has room to run and play and explore safely but he does get lonely and he likes being around humans . Bramble is a good boy and he deserves a loving home like any other cat. Bramble is active and playful and a very inquisitive and curious boy. Bramble will need a special home and a special human who can understand him and his needs and is willing to work with him and have patience with him. Definitely no small children in his adopting family and he must be the only cat. He will need a large area to play and exercise with lots of toys and activities to keep him busy and keep him from getting bored. He likes to play with toys and he likes interactive play with you. He’s not a bad cat, he just needs to be worked with and understood by a serious adopter. We know there is someone out there willing to give this adorable boy a home! Kringle looks to be a husky/shepherd mix and is approximately 12yrs old. This sweet senior does have arthritis in his spine and legs. He will need anti-inflammatory medicine and joint supplements for the rest of his life to keep him comfortable. Despite his issues he is a happy, sweet dog. Kringle is just looking for a loving home to live out his golden years. He would love nothing more than to lay by your feet or rest his head in your lap. His new home should have no or few steps as they will be difficult for him to manage.
