Check the environmental issues we have created!
It isn't for lack of the ability to change it. It's just political. It's too bad that Al Gore didn't take office. He wanted to take care of our environment!

In Gujarat a person bought a cow. During night he heard the dogs barking, it happened for successive nights; so he got CCTV installed. He was surprised to see that a Leopard visited every night and sat near the Cow. On inquiring from the previous owner, he got to know that the Mother of this Leopard was killed when the cub was only 20 days old. The Cow fed him her milk and saved his life. The cub was left off in the jungle as it grew up. But, the fully grown Leopard comes every night and still spends time with the Cow, whom it considers as his Mother....🙏

Dutchess was full of herself today. She showed off with John Bennett driving her.
I wish I had time to see her more often but I notice how she's changing and developing every month.
I am starting to see some of Velvet in her. She has her big soft eyes and her sweet disposition. Her color is like Highlander's.
John says she's a very fancy hunter prospect. I talked to Kaye to see if she still has some talented hunt seat riders and she said yes.
I'm ready for something totally bomb proof and quite a bit closer to the ground.
As much as I adore Hackney Horses I can't risk a fall.
I hate to be forced to retire at 73. My plan was to keep working until I was 75.
I am very excited about Dutchess being a hunter prospect at UPHA Shows!
It is certainly a wonderful venue in which to show Dutchess and lots of them are close to home.
I met a lovely senior woman who has her Lippett Morgan at the stable where Dutchess is. Two rare breeds at the same time and place so their owners could meet.
She lives 2 towns over. And I met another woman who wears Polly Paintbrush Creations I have worn myself. She lives in the same town where my hay comes from. It's great that all of us met today!
I'm not the only senior citizen with energetic young horses! Yippee!

Dutchess is driving! So happy to hear her progress this far. She's been hooked 3 times and is well behaved. I can believe my little baby has grown up to a big girl already. Wow! I only wish Velvet could see her now.

Dutchess is growing tall and and being turned out with her mother Velvet makes them both very happy. I have this rare photo of her by herself. The other 5 were eating hay and she was watching a wild turkey flying in the distance. They say this is the "look of eagles" when a horse sees something in the distance and stands perfectly still watching it. I was lucky to follow her gaze because she saw this wild turkey moments before I got a glimpse of it. It disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Horses are amazing creatures in so many ways. If you spend time with them in their natural state you can learn to be observant by doing what they do. We think we train them but they teach us to cooperate if we are willing to learn from them. Their eyes are magnificent and sensitive and can show their emotions from fear to resignation and everything in between.

If anyone out there is ready to adopt a hackney or hackney cross they are available. There is a pretty little mare in Bastrop right now.

My friend's hackney horse Merlin is at Cornell after being diagnosed with a very bad case of pneumonia. He is a valuable Grand Prix level dressage horse and breeding stallion. Say some prayers the he recovers. Hackney Horses are endangered so we can't afford to lose a single one. He's hanging in there and he had surgery to remove abscesses around his lungs and has drains in to remove fluid. He is a trooper. If he were a human he would be on a ventilator now. He is on oxygen and antibiotics now and is doing better than most horses. But it is still touch and go.

If I you had 3 wishes, what would they be?

Dutchess is 2 now but I love her baby picture. She is still as sweet as ever and just as beautiful.

Thinking about adding some fencing and adding to the pasture. I have enjoyed Indian Summer. Probably should call it Native American Summer but no matter what it's called it is warm, beautiful days before we have a cold spell and short days that finally turn around by mid February when it is time to tap maple trees and think spring will be here soon. I think of all the seasons I enjoy autumn more than all the other seasons of the year. The horses seem happy, too. It was not the best summer for hay. So I am thinking about finding hay for the pasture. I like giving the horses free choice in winter to keep them warm.
I like to hear creative approaches people employ to get hay to last until spring is here.

When one door closes another one opens. Meet our new baby girl Sophie who looks like a Heidi so we will call her Sophie/Heidi. She is a sweet little German Shepherd pup who came from a rescue in Texas. For some strange reason her owner didn't love her enough to house break her and put her in a kill shelter where she was quickly rescued and then adopted by a man and woman. It was their misfortune that the woman was highly allergic to Sophie and my good fortune that I was able to adopt her!
I really love her sweet disposition and curious nature the takes her all over the house.
I find myself calling, "Sophie, Where are you hiding?" So she will be Sophie/Heidi from now on.

Tweeky crossed the rainbow bridge and I still have tears rolling down my cheeks missing him. Jemma arrived and I have never had a puppy this funny. It's 16 years between them and I have so many wonderful memories of puppyhood. I am trying to figure why Jemma pounces like a cat on everything and that's why she makes me laugh. I'll post some silliness if I have my camera handy. ²

I am finally ready to adopt a German Shepherd. I still have Tweeky my little white terrier and adore him as much as ever. He is 16 now and sleeps most of the time. So a little a companion might keep him up a little more as long as she is gentle with him. I found a little puppy waiting to be adopted so I am hoping she will come to live on the farm. My friend will be adding a garden comprised of. irrigated bedding boxes and we may have a breed of endangered domestic sheep join the herd. We are thinking about building an elliptical dome above the pool. It is actually the same concept a geodesic dome is only the formula is to build 1/2 a dome for each end of the oval and connecting them in the middle with elongated hexagons. Hopefully I have the idea down so I will be able to do something innovative here on the farm. And the horses produce some of the best fertilizer around!

I'm at the BigE watching the show. Very nice quality horse but some classes had only one horse. Despite the few entries all the horses and riders did a great job!

Losing so many of my love bugs along with my family members had me really down in the dumps. It's tough as some of you certainly know. So I decided it was time to go shopping. It's a girl thing. But I wasn't going anywhere like a boutique or any other store. I went on a horse site and look at what I saw! The Black mare reminded me of Dancer so I made "the call". I found a registered Hackney mare and she was carrying a foal. I thought that raising a foal was completely impractical so I told the owner I would pick up the black mare once her foal was weaned. So the contract arrived and I signed it and the deal was made.
I got a call from the owner who said she had another mare for me. She was going out of breeding Hackney's and this second mare was free.
The only thing was that I had to get her home asap.
My friend drove a truck and trailer and I paid for gas and Nurumbeena Cricket was the mare we went to pick up. That's what we did. I had never seen my black mare. I bought her sight unseen. But when I went to the pasture and the photo I posted is exactly what I had seen.
Anyway you can guess what I did. I fell in love with the filly and bought her as we were loading Cricket on the trailer as my friend said "the girls" could stay at her farm and that she would work with the filly and teach her to lead. Heatherstone Black Velvet is Velvet for short and the filly is Dutchess MH.
That was about 5 months ago.
Here are a couple of recent photos. Dutchess is growing quickly and may up being bigger than Velvet who is 15-3 hands. The girls are such treasures and are both very sweet.
I had no plans to buy Hackney Horse mares that are as rare as hens teeth. But now I have 2 1/2. "The girls" are Hackney mares and Cricket is 1/2 Hackney and 1/2 Arabian. She is royally bred! Thank goodness Cricket's baby was weaned. He is a beautiful boy whose sire is a Knabstrupper (a Danish rare breed that has survived by introducing Appaloosa's into the gene pool. It's a spotted warm blood breed.
