Freya update!

She went to the vet yesterday and weighs nearly 14 pounds. She was well behaved for her whole procedure and got to practice her basics.

This week we are working on sit, down, stand, watch me, and her leash walking skills. We’ve also had great successes in potty training. She has been going to the back door to let us know she needs to go out.

We love our sweet Freya!

Every year we get these ducks in our pool and every year the dogs go nuts whenever they land in the pool 😂

Do you get wild visitors to your yard? One thing you can do to keep your dogs safe is to have a reliable recall even in the face of wildlife. Right after snapping this I called everyone in so our sweet visitors can relax for a bit and everyone came the first time 🥰

Well would you look at this beautiful girl! Miss Freya is 10 weeks this week and her coat is really starting to shine! Looks like we’ve got this dandruff/dry flaky skin issue under control and improving!

Miss Freya has been eating purina proplan puppy sensitive skin and stomach and goats milk. Now that’s she’s bigger she’s switching to a probiotic supplement, salmon oil, and an all natural skin care supplement. She is weighing in at 10.8 pounds which is pretty good considering she had a rough start!

We love her so much and she will start her formal training soon. As of now she knows her name, how to follow a food lure, that we go potty outside but she’s not sure how to tell me before it’s too late haha, and the pack rules.

With her being a service dog she will have over 30 commands to learn in her first year! Stay tuned!

Told y’all she would get up!

We were able to squeeze in some awake place trainings! Roughly ten mins during laundry time where we spent time dropping socks onto the floor. I’ve noticed she likes to sn**ch socks and run off which is very dangerous! So I am adding place with leave it on a sock. The more we practice with actual socks the more likely she is to leave it in the future. Whenever she does sn**ch something I ask her to sit, calmly walk up, grab her collar, remove the item. Do not chase. If you chase it’s now a game! Don’t do that that is reinforcement which is the opposite of what we want!

Place training is going so well, Martini fell asleep! 😂

When training puppies it helps to wear them down a little bit but not so much they pass out haha! We will let martini sleep this place off and she can practice again later with a lunch distraction!

Martini got in a lot of walking work today!

This morning we went on a short walk to the park where she was able to practice some down stays with all the kids running around. That is hard for such a young puppy!

In the afternoon we went on another walk since it’s expected to storm today and rain tomorrow. We headed down to the duck pond where my kids fed the ducks causing quite a stir. Martini was quite happy to just lay there and watch only getting excited during big commotion. Still she managed to only need to be replaced in a down stay twice! That’s pretty good if you ask me!

With all the commotion going on I did have to use a few redirection technique. One is shown where I’m running backwards to get her excited about me again. If that doesn’t work then I poke her in the butt to say hey! I’m still here pay attention to me! If neither of those work she’s in way over her head and she needs to just be taken out of there!

Overall I think we had a pretty successful day!

Miss Freya had her first bath today!

We used her medicated shampoo for her dandruff issues going on and we are supposed to use it every 3 days leaving it on for ten mins before washing off. Of course after our bath we had to have a nice cuddle and warm towel! Which lead to the best nap!

Freya and Martini want to wish you a happy Saint Patrick’s Day! They have had lots of fun today! Lots of walks (for martini) before the rain gets in, lots of yard playtime, and lots and lots of toys!

What fun activities did your dog do today?

03/17/2022

Here’s Martini’s progress report of the day!

We started the day a little slow so we did a little basics over breakfast. Then went out to enjoy a nice morning. As you can see she found an excellent stick! What I didn’t catch on video was the tumble mat covered in dew so when she went running to get the stick she slid across the tumble track. She was so embarrassed 🫣

Then we relaxed a little through the afternoon. When it cooled off we headed down to the duck pond. Got some good walking practice in with lots of natural distractions and some good stays near the pond.

Then we ended the day with some fun with our puppy friend 🥰

03/17/2022

How many of y’all have a puppy that puts itself to bed?!

We have a divider in the crate to keep her in the size that is appropriate for her which will aid us in potty training. During the day we don’t have a towel to help with potty training but at night we give her a towel so she has something comfy to lay on! Plus if she has an accident on a towel it’s easy to clean up!

We would like to welcome to the pack Freya!

She was born on January 9, 2022 and is a rust colored Doberman.

Some of you know about my autoimmune journey and some of you don’t so let me share it here!

I have fibromyalgia and it causes me some nerve pain and grip issues. Sometimes I’ll be holding something then all of a sudden I drop it. Or I go to pick something up and can’t ever grip it then drop it about ten to twenty times before I can get it picked up. It is incredibly frustrating! I also have issues with my blood pressure and have come very close to hitting my head on the ground in the past year. And that is very scary! For the times when I’m by myself I could use the extra help and the security of knowing that if I fall I will have a service dog to bumper my head and retrieve my phone. Many times I just need a little stabilization to so a large breed dog is more necessary for me. Cue little miss Freya!

Miss Freya is the offspring of one of my service dog clients and I was given an opportunity to adopt her! I didn’t hesitate and she has been a wonderful match in personality for me so far. She’s definitely the runt of the litter but she has seen Dr. Eckels at Neighborhood Veterinary Services in Edmond and she is very happy with how she’s growing and we are dealing with a bit of dry skin/alopecia issues which is common for the Doberman breed. Never fear we will get her fully healthy with a beautiful coat in no time!

We will be documenting Freya’s service dog journey as she grows! I will start her more serious training closer to 12 weeks. For now she is learning her name, the rules of the house, potty training, crate training, and how to get along with our other dogs in the house!

Martini had an excellent day full of training and more importantly fun!

First up we had to practice putting on our harness politely called “getting dressed”. Part of getting dressed is being held and restrained from your harness handle so periodically throughout the day I will grab her harness and ask her to sit r move a certain way so this isn’t weird!

Then… a walk! The rule is you stay next to me or slightly behind me. That’s where the treats happen! If she got ahead I just stopped and encouraged her to come back by me! Easy peasy!

Then we had fun opening our bark box! Lots of fun toys and treats inside! And of course puppy playtime!

Come dinner time we had to get serious. Not her favorite time as you can see. I use an anchor on the wall so if she gets up she can’t get very far. This protects me from getting jumped on at dinner and keeps her one less step out of trouble! If she got up I just guided her back.

Then we ended the night with some basics over dinner. When dogs are in training we can use their dinner for training! This is a perfect time to practice basic obedience. Tonight we practiced sit, down, stay, and come!

Well that was a big first full day of training! What do you guys think how did Martini do!?

Silly Martini!

She is staying with us for two weeks for board and train. Martini will be working on place around food and the door, fixing up her leash walking skills, and general manners. Basically she is coming to mature a little bit more!

Stay tuned for videos of her working!

Dominance is not a title for dogs, but a word used to describe the relationship between two dogs. There is always going to be a top dog because our dogs do not live in natural packs. Dominance could even be used to describe very specific situations such as a dog that only exerts dominant behaviors when food is involved.

A natural pack is a blood family unit. Dogs are still sophisticated in their language though and have very clear signals to communicate to other dogs outside of their pack their intentions. Thus giving us a dominant dog.

No matter how hard you try you can't wag your tail and communicate like a dog. to learn more about dog communication and dominance join the waitlist for our Free Facebook group here:

Whenever you are training there is no room for anger and frustration!

We are supposed to be fair and just leaders. Leaders don't take their problems out on others. So, if you can't get out of a sour mood then just skip working with your dog that day and opt for a cuddle.

Training can be incredibly frustrating for both parties as you are both trying to learn the others language at the same time. It's ok to have cuddle days!

From now until the end of eternity you will always reward a leave it. This is one of those skills we want to be fool proof so anytime you give your dog a leave it I want you to give your dog some kind of reward.

Since leave it is a lifesaving skill it is super important to make sure your dog is willing to partake. A high value reward every single time will reinforce this importance.

Does your dog like to pick up and eat things? That's incredibly dangerous but there are ways to prevent this! Book your free consultation at: preciousdogtraining.propetware.com

Going back to kindergarten is a call that you will sometimes need to make. If your pup is frustrated, nervous, unable to perform, confused, and keeps throwing the wrong things at you they need to go back to kindergarten.

There is nothing wrong with going back to kindergarten. It just means your pup needs more foundation before he can do what you are asking of him. Your training should look like a roller coaster ride until your dog understands. Then we can switch to the gentle boat ride.

Is your dog struggling to pick up a skill? We can help!

If you are not consistent in your training then you won't be hitting your goals and you will still be pulling your hair out!

Don't pull your hair out! 5 minutes of practice each day is the bare minimum necessary to practice obedience behaviors and for any behavioral modification you will want to practice it for however long it takes at least once a day.

An example of a behavioral modification practice might be having your dog in a place while you eat dinner. However long dinner is is how long you practice.

Not sure where to start? Send me a PM and I would be happy to help!

Owner/Dog Trainer

I started dog training after rescuing my dog Precious. She was a scared mess and couldn’t even walk through our door without having a panic attack. I enrolled her in training, and as she progressed through the program her confidence shot up. After seeing this transformation I decided I wanted to do this for a living!

After completing school and all my practice hours, I opened Precious Dog Training. It is my goal to help dogs and their people become a family. My passion is for puppies and newly adopted dogs. It is a lot easier to prevent the problems from becoming habit versus fixing problems that are ingrained in their minds. I have helped many owners from the moment they have brought their dogs home to set them up for success. This goes the same for newly adopted dogs as well. If I can get in that first week then we can work together from your new dog from creating bad habits!

Another thing I have developed as a passion is sewing! I have been creating products in my spare time for pet owners all over! My products so far include collars, dog bandanas, bows, coats, cat collars, and catnip toys. I do this purely for my love of sewing and I share my products at an affordable price so you can enjoy them too.

I have a love for animals and I want to share that with as many people as m schedule allows! I own 4 dogs, Precious, Maya, Avery, and Poppy, 2 cats, Mercedes and Orca, and 3 horses, Roman, Nombre, and Candy Kisses. I have ridden horses for 18 years and have always owned at least 1 pet throughout my life!
