Garth, the office wonder!!!! Molly (the English Cream lying down) decided today she wasn't going to help out in the office, so we had to call in support. Thanks to Garth, no paper went out without a paw print, every bone was sampled, every hand licked, and only the best dogs were allowed to enter our facility.

P.S. Don't tell Garth, but they ALL are the best dogs, but he likes to think he has a say🤣

What more could you ask for on a Saturday Morning. Garth gets breakfast in bed, followed by belly rubs, and then he enjoys the sunny outside weather with some friends. We are so excited to share with you all that Van Haggar has found a foster home. He may have spent the past few months out here learning how to be a gentleman and have manners, but he's always been a sweetheart. Thanks to Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue for always being willing to stand up for the dogs and make sure they have an opportunity to show who they truly are.

This past Saturday, Willow from Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue found her forever home. We can't put into words how amazing it is when people open their lives and homes and give adult dogs a chance. They have so much love to give and just want to find their human. I just want to clear one thing up. To everyone that thinks the dogs that we save from the shelter’s live in a box. This is MDTA, I have always believed dogs should be able to run and play, not kept in kennels and chain link. Yes our dogs must learn to kennel and behave for their safety. We live on a farm and that’s why I do what we do, because we have space. Nothing gives me more pleasure than watching these guys enjoy life.

This says it all. If you know of a veteran suffering from PTSD there is help. Please tell them about our nonprofit Service Peace Warriors We give fully trained service dogs to honorably discharged veterans cost free to them. If that’s not what they need, we can help them find resources.

We are so happy MDTA Polar is providing comfort to all involved.

Therapy dogs WORK:

Let’s give a big round of applause to K9 Polar, our department emotional support dog. He has put in a lot of work this/last week for our community, especially those involved with Wiley Elementary. Involving both staff and students- he uplifts spirits during an incident of tragedy. K9 Polar has made appearances at Richland School District for grieving staff, Wiley Elementary to help staff and students, and even the dispatch center for our local dispatchers. This one dog has helped connect the entire community together as one. Therapy dogs WORK. Thank you to Service Peace Warriors- the dog you donated is doing incredible things and succeeding in what your organization trained him to do.

With the unimaginable events that unfolded this past week at William Willey Elementary. We heard that Polar was brought to the District office and was at the school the first day back after this tragedy. We sincerely hope Polar and his joy brought some peace to those suffering through this. Mattox Dog Training Academy was founded on a hope, of giving back and supporting those in need. While we accomplish this through our continued support of Service Peace Warriors, we are always looking for other ways to directly impact our community. In 2023 we donated Polar to the West Richland Police Department as a service-trained therapy dog.

Mattox Dog Training Academy likes to start its service dogs out young, getting these pups into the schools provides motivation in reading and gives the pups vital training to prepare them for service dog training. We are happy to provide one to two service dogs a year to first responders. We know these pups will someday help change lives four paws at a time.

Ranger (the cream-colored dog on your left) Has been training with us since August of 2023. He was pulled from a local shelter by an individual who wanted to see him have a better life. They hoped that by having him trained here we could build a good solid foundation that would last and though there were a few bumps along the way to finding him a forever home he would fit into today that dream became a reality. We will miss you Ranger but are glad to see you go somewhere that you'll have a friend to play with and room to run.

Here at MDTA your dog is always being worked. It’s not all about sit, stay, down & recalls. It’s about life skills your dog will need as he grows. Socialization with other dogs, people and children are the most important. Without that, all your other training means nothing. A dog that cannot enjoy his environment, is not going to be happy. Remember he is a pack animal, he wants to be around you and others.
