STOKED! I am beyond happy with the progress of this mare! Its been a long winter just getting her here to this point! She's come a long ways from a reactive lady that would go up in the air and cow kick to get away. She's becoming a pretty great little partner! Still a ways to go!

Truth! Motivation Friday!

Sometimes we get frustrated when a door closes.

Remember when a door closes, another will open.
Another opportunity is coming.

Keep working hard and don’t give up when things get tough.

There is a reason for every lesson learned along the way—even the hard lessons.

Stay focused and pivot when needed—you are getting closer to reaching your goals.

I think this is so huge when working babies and young horses getting started. Some horses need more than 30 days or even more than 60. The individual mind is a precious thing!

Trust the process.

A lot of times, we get frustrated or give up on horses too soon because we haven’t given them time to mentally mature.

Give them time to build confidence and understanding in your program before you begin manipulating a bunch of factors.

If you keep moving the goalpost and introducing new plays before your horse has even had a chance to understand what you are asking for, it is going to become frustrated.

Trust that the system you have established will produce the results you are looking for. Stay the course. Give it some time.

Remember, making a great horse takes years — not days.

Now that we've spent a few working with Ropes and all things scary we can start the basics of ground driving!

Day 2 of "Picking me Up of the fence" lesson! While it's nice for mounting, I love this lesson for teaching nervous horses confidence and staying light and supple. JJ Got pretty used to being reactive and panicking which lead to bolting, rushing through gates (or any tight space) , and then when she felt trapped she would kick and blow up. All of which I have experienced 🤣. But this, this was a huge win! Still tail swishy when our legs touch but were getting there! 🥰

JJ is learning to pick me up off the fence after realizing how scary it is to have a person this high up and over the saddle! Little bit closer!
First step, not blowing backwards and taking off! 🤣 Next acceptance and understanding. Moving off pressure and following with light hands.

"You have to work as hard on yourself as you do your job."

While I can't take credit for these words of wisdom by Jim Rohn, I can explain how they apply to the horsemanship journey.

It's important to understand that for our horses to get better, we have to get better first. Not only do we have to work on our skills, but we also have to work on how we perceive ourselves.

You will never outperform your own self-image. So, if you are chasing success, start there first.

In everything that you do, make sure that your work is coming from a place of internal self-worth and confidence. If you don't have that key foundational belief in place, it is going to be challenging to reach the level of success you desire.

Self-worth is built by repeatedly performing the actions that propel you closer to the person you desire to be. Make a habit of making yourself proud, first. Then, watch that spill over into everything else you do.

Invest in yourself today.
