Farming is hard. We do everything in our power to grow our crop but have no control over weather, pests and disease. This strawberry season has been disappointing and more challenging then any we have had before. Thank you to our amazing community that supports our efforts and encourages us.
There will be strawberries this weekend at the festival from Smith-Perry Berries. Please support them!

THE HUGHES FAMILY IS MOVING TO THE CHATTANOOGA SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN WITH A NEW LOCATION IN HIXSON

{May 2022 Chattanooga, TN} Hughes Farmers Market & Garden Center has now
opened their second retail location at 6402 Hixson Pike in Hixson, Tennessee.
Run by third generation family members, Hughes farm and first retail location is on
Rankin Road in Dunlap, Tennessee.
“We have loved serving the folks in Dunlap and will continue to do so for years to come.
When we were thinking about expanding, we took a close look at the areas that surround
Dunlap and decided on opening in the HIxson community,” said Co-owner and Manager
Kiri Hughes.
“Our family has farmed for over a century. We are known for our famous tomatoes and
peppers of all kinds. Currently we’re stocked daily with fresh produce including
strawberries, corn, squash, watermelons, peppers and more. Plus we offer the widest
selection of beautiful flowering plants, cedar furniture and decorative accessories for
your home and outdoor living spaces,” Hughes continued.
“And what a wonderful reception we’ve received here in Hixson! Each day, dozens of
shoppers come by and enjoy our fried green tomato sandwiches and hand dipped ice
cream while they shop. And they tell us how beautiful the place is and how much they
are enjoying the wide selection of, well, everything!” she said.
“You know covid was rough, but what it succeeded in doing is getting all of us to
reevaluate our lives. People are really focused on home and family and of course health
and nutrition. We’re proud to be a part of that, and invite everyone to come experience
the Hughes difference,” she concluded.
Hughes Farmers Market and Garden Center is open seven days a week. For more
information contact Kiri Hughes at 423-305-2320.

Inflation/gas costs are hitting our local growers, big time.

Inflation/gas costs are hitting our local growers, big time.

We are posting this to let our customers know how much price increases in fuel and fertilizer are affecting our input costs. This is 2-3 weeks worth of feed. The cost has nearly doubled in the past 6 months. Diesel costs for hauling pigs to the processor and picking up meat (240 miles monthly) and picking up the feed (120 miles per trip) have almost tripled in the past two years. We are faced with the choice to either raise prices, feed GMO corn, or to stop supplying local raised pastured non-GMO fed meat. We want our customers to understand that even with price increases we are still making less money. This is not something we do for the money. We hope you’ll understand. Thank You.

High Meadows Farm will be at Mt Goat Market today & tomorrow at 11am. Due to expected freezing temperatures & snow, we suggest U-Pick customers plan to pick before Saturday. Some early orange/white/yellow varieties are now blooming. More varieties will be coming soon.
