Animals raised in captivity have a much harder time surviving on their own in the wild because they lack the necessary survival skills!

Do you check your yard for rabbit nests before mowing? Protecting the nest with a laundry basket is an easy way to make sure they don’t accidentally get mowed over, while also offering extra safety from predators. 🤍🐰🤍

Next week is Valentine’s Day 💕 and the U.S. alone is estimated to spend over $2 billion on flowers, many of which can be seriously toxic to our cats and dogs. Before you buy that beautiful bouquet for someone with pets, stop and check that you’re not accidentally gifting them something dangerous – their pets will thank you for it!

We need your help!

In 2021, our pet food pantry provided food for 240 community pets.
In 2022, that number jumped to 1,011.
So far in 2023, there have been over 2,200 community pets that have been provided food through our pet food pantry.

This program has seen a huge increase in need in the last couple of years, with no signs of it slowing down.

Are you able to make a donation of dry pet food to help the pets in need in our community?

Donations can be dropped off at HSEC whenever we are open, or can be mailed to us at 54687 County Road 19, Bristol, IN 46507.

PSA 📢📢 Puppies and kittens need a LOT of time, training, and love, and they come with long-term financial responsibilities. Do NOT recommend getting them as gifts for your loved ones without their knowledge. This is a big decision for any person because you are choosing a companion for the rest of the animal's life.

Every year people adopt puppies at Christmas time only to return them 1-4 months later or even a year later. And by then, they are not so tiny and adorable. And haven't been trained, developed poor behavioral habits, and now are much less adoptable. This means they will sit in the shelter, now in the large dog runs instead of the tiny puppy pits.

We want FURVER homes for our animals, not just homes right now. Do what is in the best interest of the animal. We would love for all of our animals to find great homes for the holidays, ones where we know they will be loved forever and be taken care of long-term.

🌭We use hot dogs as treats for picky eaters, and also to dispense medications.

🫛Green beans are a great treat for dogs who are a little on the chunky side, and we prefer them to have no salt added! 🥰
