Dr. David Jolly is an equine veterinarian in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Below he describes the disadvantages of over using hydro therapy on open wounds. Great Information! Check it out!
“We try to keep all the fluids, the serum, you see mother nature has got this all worked out, and we come along and some people wash it (the wound) off ten times a day with soap and water. Well, we (Dr. Jolly and his vet techs) don’t wash any of our wounds to start with, we put wound wash (Lacerum or Eclipse Wound Cleanser) on them (wounds) but we don’t put any water, the reason we don’t use water, and this is a fundamental principle,(veterinarians advised to rinse wounds with soap and water, which they don’t do as much anymore) If you run water on a wound long enough you will see the tissue turn from red to grey. So what you have done is ruptured all of those muscle fibers and the only thing left is fascia, (which is connective tissue which has no cells in it), eliminating the tissue you are trying to grow back, so each time you run water over the wound you are eliminating the new cell growth."
