This lesion, known as a feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL), starts with erosion of the dentin. (Dentin is a layer of material that lies immediately underneath the enamel of the tooth.) It erodes the tooth to the point of fracturing the crown and exposing the nerve. Many owners don't realize this process is happening in their beloved felines mouth. A recent study of 228 cats showed 29% of cats over the age of 4.5 years have resorptive lesions. This is yet another reason to schedule an appointment today and have those choppers checked!

Does your best friends breath stink? Is there an unpleasant odor after he licks you? Then your friend may have periodontal disease. In other words, YOUR DOG/CAT NEEDS A DENTAL!! Dental disease is a very common issue we see in all of our pets. So common, in fact, they declared February as National Dental Month! SJVH is here to help get those family members who lack a thumb to brush, back on track. As you can see in the pictures above, our highly skilled technician saved these teeth from a certain future of tooth decay/loss and has increased the overall health of our patient!!

February is National Dental Month!! At SJVH, we pride ourselves in the quality and care that we give with each and every dental. A routine part of our cleanings is full mouth x-rays. It is amazing what we find above the gumline! The picture above shows a little bit of redness and irritation. The x-ray shows severe bone loss around that root. The tooth was extracted to stop any further disease! Now is a great time to get those beloved furry family members' teeth checked!!

Good morning! We wanted to alert all our wonderful followers that we are NOT selling any merchandise with a SJVH logo on it!! Please do not purchase from anyone that has reached out to you via facebook. It is not us!

Some of our SJVH family may already know that we have to find a new home for our practice. Fresno City aquired the Vons shopping center over a year ago and in June they offered us a year to relocate! They are going to utilize the land to build senior housing and a recreation center. While that is exciting news for the city, that makes us have to pivot!
I am working closely with a realtor and we have been scouring the area for possible new locations! We ideally wanted to build, but land is scarce and the timeline is diminishing! We are now looking for buildings that we can purchase to renovate and call our bew home. The city has been great with working with us and we think we can still build if land presents itself soon, but an existing building may be more practical.
We are writing this because all it takes is one person who knows someone who is thinking about selling their land or building! We are looking for a structure that is at least 4000 sf but the dream is about 9000 sf near one of the major freeways! So if you know anyone that can help in this process please reach out! If not please send positive thoughts and prayers our way!!

October 12th is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day in the USA.

We know you all love your pets so much, but do we love them a bit too much? It is so incredibly easy to overfeed our pets. We do it without thinking about the long lasting and detrimental to health effects that it could have on them.
In 2018, an estimated 60% of cats and 56% of dogs in the United States were overweight or obese.
We are sure you agree these figures are pretty shocking!

So of you think that your pet is obese, there are lots of things that you can do to help them to lose weight. Whether it is more exercise or less food, this awareness day is a way of educating us all about healthy lifestyles for our beloved pets. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention website has lots of facts and figures along with helpful information to assist your pets weight and associated health issues.

Help raise awareness today and most of all, help your pet become healthy for their lives.

Please contact our office to schedule an appointment for your pet’s health care needs.
