January 23, 2022

Dear Friendswood Animal Advocates (FAA) Supporters and Followers:

We have been blessed by your support over the years and could not have made the impact on both owned and homeless pets without you! After twelve successful years serving the community, our members voted to dissolve FAA. All animals under our care have been adopted! All other animals we have promoted are with a specific rescue or are with an independent foster where they are being promoted for adoption.

As you have seen on this page over the past few months, many of our members have begun volunteering with a local rescue group called S.A.V.E. Rescue Coalition. SAVE has the same passion as FAA which is saving lives and preventing unnecessary births in Galveston County and surrounding areas. Monthly, SAVE holds multiple spay/neuter clinics for both dogs and cats in Galveston County. These services are free for qualifying residents. With FAA dissolving, many of our volunteers already have active roles at the clinics. Approximately 2,000 Galveston County cats and dogs were spayed or neutered as a result of these much-needed clinics in 2021. The goal is to decrease the number of animals entering already crowded Galveston County facilities, resulting in empty shelters! These clinics are officially named the Galveston County Empty Shelter Project on Facebook; however, they are funded by SAVE. PLEASE “like” and share posts from both pages!

There are many local rescue groups/organizations that provide assistance to the public and are always in need of volunteers and donations. Please check out their pages and support them:

It's a GREAT DAY TO ADOPT a new family member!! **Please Share if you cannot adopt** It takes one click 🐾❤🐾

This week's pets of the week at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center in Texas City are SASHA and HEATH!

SASHA, a female DMH brown tabby, says "meow" and "hello" in her sweet kitty voice. Sasha is about 2 years old with soft fur and a fluffy tail. One can almost guess what she is thinking from her facial expressions and meow-meows. Sasha greets visitors and often shows off her tummy fur. Come meet her, fall in love and make her your pampered princess kitty.

HEATH is 2-year-old male Lab Mix and has coarse medium hair, golden brindle markings and honey-brown eyes. Health arrived not trusting humans and afraid, but fast-forward four months, with many humans making effort, and he has made amazing progress. One volunteer consistently made efforts to help him. He has always shown positive interest meeting other dogs and would likely thrive with another in his home. Heath may be a shy guy, but only the deserved will receive his sweet love and loyalty.

For more information on how to adopt or foster these pets, please visit Galveston County Animal Resource Center and gchd.org/arc.

Vivian and Ray
Are you looking for a beautiful pair of orange kitties to brighten your day and bound through your life? Ray and Vivian may be the perfect cats for you.

Ray and Vivian are a 2-year old brother and sister pair who are having to be rehomed because their dad is sick. They are a fun and active pair who need room to run and play. Wand toys and balls are favorite toys. They love to be petted, especially stroked from head to tail and will meow for their pets. They are not big on being held or snuggling, though. These two are too busy for that, especially if there is catnip to roll in.

While they are large and active cats, they are very gentle and do not use their claws on people. They make quite a picture striding around the house as an attractive pair. They are young, happy kitties looking for their new furever home.

Both are altered (spay/neuter), are current on all of their vaccinations, are microchipped, have had this month’s flea preventative, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Please contact Amy Ross at 713 826 4271 if you are interested in adopting Ray and Vivian. Their adoption fee is $100.

***Vivian and Ray are not Friendswood Animal Advocates (FAA) animals. They are being promoted through FAA as a courtesy for their current care taker***

Hobbs - Adopted - January 2022

Hobbs is a "foster failure!" His finders are truly assets to the Friendswood Community. Not only did they find Hobbs, they had him neutered ASAP and helped him with injuries he had obtained by living on the streets of Friendswood. Once Hobbs was on his way to a full recovery he was introduced to the finders personal cats where Hobbs and one of the cats formed a sweet bond and began playing together. At this point, Nicholas and his wife knew they needed to add Hobbs to their family. We couldn't be happier!!

This week's pets of the week at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center in Texas City are Jackpot and Georgie! **Please Share**

JACKPOT is a Domestic Short Hair with a luxurious black coat. He is a year- and-a-half old, neutered, handsome and waiting for the right family to take him to his forever home. He wouldn't mind being the only cat and getting all the attention. Jackpot arrived at the ARC with a serious jaw injury which is all fixed and healed now thanks to some caring people. Jackpot is energetic, playful, curious and handsome. Bingo, Checkmate, Yahtzee are all good - but YOU can hit the Jackpot!

GEORGIE is 2-year-old male Labrador Staffordshire mix with a medium chocolate coat. He loves to give and receive affection, run in the yard and play with toys. Georgie has a higher energy than most, so running and going for walks will be necessary for his behavioral health. We can also see him running with children in the backyard and chasing butterflies. He just needs his new family to come take him home.

Katerina had been hanging around a co-worker's house famished and alone. They asked if I could rescue her, and I'm glad I did! Katerina is one of the most affectionate cats I have rescued. She is always eager for pets, which she greets with a constant rumble of purrs. She is very playful and loves wand toys, toys with feathers, and toy mice. She'll play stalk and pounce with her wand toy mouse for a half hour at a time. Mostly though, she is a people cat who just wants to be around you. Pretty ideal!
In addition to her sweet personality, Katerina has a beautiful tabby coat the looks like it was overlaid with some Tortie sprinkles, adding some beautiful rich orange. She also has fabulous green eyes.
Katerina is a sweet, happy girl of about 1 year old. She enjoys her windowsill view. She always uses the litter box. She isn't sure about dogs. She likes every person who comes to visit her.
She is fully vetted and likely came from a shelter at some point, because she has a spay tattoo.
If you would like to meet sweet Katerina, please contact Amy at 713 826 4271. Adoption application and adoption fee apply.

The New Year brings many new projects that we would like to help with, but to do that- supplies are needed. If you have any of these supplies,- you can take them to our donation boxes at VCA Mainland Animal Hospital in Texas City.

This week's pets of the week at Galveston County Animal Resource Center in Texas City are Sabrina and Fanta!

SABRINA is a DSH with a lovely tortoiseshell coat - black dramatically sprinkled with shades of orange. Sabrina's favorite poem is "The Owl and The Pussycat" by David Lear. She looked in the mirror and isn't quite sure which she is - maybe both with her big round eyes. Sabrina is 2-and-a-half years old, spayed and current on her rabies vaccination. Come meet sweet Sabrina this week and get acquainted.

FANTA is a 2-year-old female Pointer mix, with a short brindle and spotted coat. You can see there is definitely some sporting dog in there as she points while she is focused. While she's quite goofy in running yard, she is an affectionate girl that is drawn to the human closest to her. Come meet this hefty muscular girl and add some fun love to your family.

HOBBS is a one year old kitty is looking for a home. This guy is a lover and not a fighter 😻 Hobbs is sweet and quite - which makes him a great cat for just about any family, especially ones with small children....but sometimes quiet cats get overlooked. Please don't overlook this gem of a cat! He's going to make someone or some family a great companion. If properly introduced, Hobbs should get along with other cats. Please contact Nicholas at 281-250-4749 to meet this adorable kitty. A small adoption fee will be required.

This week's pets of the week are Elizabeth and Ajax!

Elizabeth is a DSH Tortie and white spayed female. She's about 2-and-a-half years old and is finished raising her six kittens. Her dark tortie coat is sleek and shiny and her tiny white paws are immaculate. Elizabeth is gently playful and likes to act silly for an audience. She is quiet most of the time and a bit shy. After a proper introduction she is ready for cuddles and purring. Come meet lovely Elizabeth and fall in love!

Ajax appears to be a Bernese Mountain dog mix, at about 2-years-old. His sibling was adopted some time back, but he is still the happy and sweet guy he has always been. Ajax appears social with other dogs, people and children. Our volunteers always enjoy the time they spend with him, but it’s time for him to go to the home that he deserves.
