Let’s talk about BDS, which in the animal adoption world stands for Black Dog Syndrome. This is a phenomenon in which black dogs up for adoption are ignored in favor of lighter colored dogs. A study published in the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science in 2002 found that black coat colors negatively influenced adoption rates for both dogs and cats. Researchers said adoption rates were much lower in pure-black animals.

So in light of this, we want to highlight our super sweet black dogs that are waiting for adoption.

🐾 Beckett is from our water litter and mom is a German Shepherd. He is almost 4 months old. He is such a little goof ball and loves to play with toys. He also has a super sweet cuddly side and will climb in your lap for extra love and attention. He has had some basic training while waiting for his furever family.

🐾 Mama Pepper (mama from the bear litter) has been patiently waiting for someone to adopt her now that her babies have all found homes. She weighs only about 25 lbs and is about 2 years old.

Mama pepper gets along great with other dogs, spayed/UTD on shots, and loves to be outside and chase bunnies, but has an over all chill personality.

Love getting updates from our long time alum families!

“Our sweet Petey was dropped at the vet's doorstep at 4 weeks old with his siblings. We fostered the group and ended up keeping him. He has been our lovebug ever since. His transition from a city dog in TX to having a brother that we also rescued to help him watch over our 40 acres in OK & 130 animals was a breeze. He can't seem to resist the business end of skunks 🤢. He loves staring out the window at people behind us when he comes on car rides. Petey greets every visitor by grabbing a toy and bringing it to their car door so they have no choice but to play with and pet him when they arrive. He is the softest dog in the world, even as a dirty farm dog. We are privileged to have him as part of our family!”

Mama Pepper (mama from the bear litter) needs your help! She has been with us since November 29th, 2023!! She came to us hugely pregnant and had her babies on December 8th/9th (over night). Her babies have all been adopted and she has waited an awfully long time to find just the perfect home for her too. You can’t tell from most of her pictures, but just like half of her babies she has short little legs which makes her even more adorable and weighs only about 25 lbs.

Mama pepper gets along great with other dogs, spayed/UTD on shots, and loves to be outside and chase bunnies, but has an over all chill personality.

Meet Kit! Kit is a pure bred German Shepherd and is almost 1.5 years old. She can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly and is very sweet and smart. She has been through our board and train program previously and with a short refresher she has been able to remember some of that training. She is great with other dogs, fixed, and UTD on immunizations. This beautiful girl will make a phenomenal addition to your family.

For our first happy tails post I thought it was only fitting to start it off with a double update! These two are both Lakeside Rescue alums and get to enjoy life together! ❤️

Walter (fka Billy from the bandit litter) is an “amazing dog!! He is so smart and absolutely spoiled” and Mila (mama of the water litter) is “an absolute gem! She is so sweet and such a cuddle bug! And they are already besties!”

S’mores!!

S’mores does great with dogs, cats, and kids, but most of all the wants someone to cuddle her and pet her. She’s about 10 lbs and 1 year old. She has such a silly personality. She likes to use her front paws a little like hands to hold things she’s trying to play with. She will cuddle, then jump down from the couch and get her zoomies out, then hop right back up next to you for pets and belly rubs.
