We kicked off our Grand Opening event by dedicating a few areas of our clinic to those who have instrumental in the opening the new clinic.
Horse and Buggy- Phil and Linda Gulvin
This couple allowed us to take possession of a Gulvin family heirloom and helped us make the front of our building look unique. We would like to thank this couple and officially dedicate the horse and buggy in honor of Phil and Linda Gulvin. Unfortunately, the horse is not currently out there as he is getting a makeover after the weather had damaged his mane and tail. We expect "Midnight" to be hitched to his buggy later this Fall!
ICU- Marilyn Jensen
The land the clinic is built on has significant sentimental value. Dating back past the 1890’s, the land was left in a will to Dr. Gulvin's great great great grandmother. A loving family was born and raised on the farm and 4 generations were lucky to be able to call the farm home. Dr. Gulvin is now the 5th generation. One horse called the farm home, his name was Midnight and he was a Black horse. The black horse that will be pulling the buggy that carries our sign will be named Midnight in memory of this history. As Dr. Gulvin's great grandparents unfortunately passed of old age, the farm fell to a state of disrepair. The farmhouse, shop, and barns were all professionally burnt and buried in the land - to go back to ashes and dust to dust as it all began so long before. After sending the land back to the earth, her grandparents built their home in the very spot that her great grandfather's shop used to be located. Many years later, her mom returned back home to the farm by building next door. As they built a new barn and moved horses in, the land then became home to farm animals again and the family farm was back alive. Years later, in 2019 a veterinary clinic was founded by Dr. Gulvin, the 5th generation granddaughter to the founders of the Nellis Farm.
The Intensive Care Unit - also called the ICU.
The ICU is a location where we perform procedures, begin and end anesthesia, run diagnostics, and ultimately save the most lives. We feel that such an important area should be dedicated in honor of someone who is extremely important in making us what we are today. Someone who has a belief in saving all the puppies and kittens, and someone who has HELPED US SUCCEED. This person has the strongest roots to anyone alive on earth to this land we built this clinic on. She is the only reason that we were able to acquire the land to build in such a prime, and centrally located area. We are proud to officially dedicate the Heart of Gold Veterinary Care Intensive Care Unit in honor of Grandma, Marilyn A Jensen.
Reception- Elisha M Gulvin
Since the beginning, this individual has laid the foundation for this entire practice by founding the morals that Dr. Gulvin believes in. When Dr. Gulvin was born, she became a work-from-home mom and raised Dr Gulvin to be intelligent, compassionate, and strong-minded, which sometimes gets her in trouble. Founding a business isn’t easy. The development of a PLLC takes a lot of paperwork, time, resources, and knowledge. Dr Gulvin founded this practice within 30 days of graduating veterinary school, and that is absolutely unheard of. She claims that this would not have been possible without her biggest supporter who had experience in managing a medical practice. She helped a human medical doctor found, run, and eventually sell-out a medical practice for over 7 years. She is a certified medical office manager and has gone through extensive training in how to effectively run a medical office. Although she has a background in running human medical offices, the similarities transfer to the veterinary industry - and actually, made our business and policies just that much stronger. Having a “Family atmosphere” has been her top priority and she has made sure that Heart of Gold tries to maintain these morals. While building the new building, she was commonly found painting, gluing molding to our walls, helping with the landscaping, and so much more. She assisted us in securing a loan to make the building possible and helped us work our way through lawyer and attorney appointments to get the proper paperwork done. Since this individual has been with us since the beginning, and she even grew up on the land we are standing on, we thought that the best place to dedicate to her would be the Reception. It is our honor to officially dedicate the Heart of Gold Veterinary Care Reception In honor of Mom - Elisha M Gulvin.
Entire Clinic- Richard P Gulvin
This Honor is going to dedicate the ENTIRE BUILDING to one person who has given so much of themselves - sometimes even more than they have in themselves to give. From the very beginning, this person has always strived to make Dr. Gulvin's dreams come to life. When she was a little girl and wanted a horse, he made that come true by building her a barn. When she wanted to show at state Pinto shows, he rebuilt her a horse trailer and coached her from the outside of the ring. Fast forwarding to today, this man continues to make her dreams come to life. He is the reason this clinic was even built. He was advocating and meeting with the builder, the town, NY highway department, engineers, and surveyors, to make sure that this building would be possible and would pass regulations. And let me tell you- if you don’t chase the state, the engineers, and the surveyors - the project doesn’t happen! He has literally shed blood, sweat, and tears, fought any dead ends with regulations in building on our behalf, almost ended up in the hospital after inhaling paint fumes through an approved N95 mask, and gives up personal time almost every single day to continue to finish building our dream building. He is selfless in giving up his own hobbies so that my childhood dream can become a reality. This person, by himself, designed and built the entire reception area by hand. To build such a beautiful area by hand, with no instruction manual, is truly remarkable. It is our absolute honor to officially dedicate the ENTIRE CLINIC to honor our father, Richard P Gulvin.
