At Serenity Valley Farm, we raise Kune Kune/American Guinea Hog crosses, a unique and desirable breed for pasture-raised pork. This hybrid breed combines the best qualities of both parent breeds:

Kune Kunes: Known for their hardiness, docility, and foraging ability. They are excellent foragers and can thrive on a diet of grass and pasture. While they are relatively slow-growing compared to some other breeds, their hardiness and adaptability make them well-suited for pasture-raised environments. American Guinea Hogs: Renowned for their lean, flavorful meat and small size. They are also known for their adaptability and resistance to disease. American Guinea Hogs are known for their rapid growth rate, making them an excellent choice for those seeking a quicker turnaround time. The combination of these two breeds results in a pig that is:

Hardy and resilient: Able to thrive in various climates and conditions. Efficient foragers: Capable of finding their own food and minimizing feed costs. Docile and friendly: Easy to handle and interact with. Productive: Producing high-quality meat with a good meat-to-bone ratio. Flavorful: Offering a unique and delicious taste that is distinct from traditional pork. By choosing Kune Kune/American Guinea Hog crosses, we are committed to providing our customers with the highest quality, most sustainable pork possible. The hybrid nature of our pigs allows us to balance the desirable traits of both breeds, resulting in a pig that is both hardy and productive, while maintaining a high level of quality and flavor.

Empowering Experience: photo of hanging pig's top half.

We took yet another step towards self-sufficiency yesterday, harvesting this lovely female for our personal use. We have always known she was a fatty, always retaining her plumpness despite nursing piglets, which thinned the other girls down. Our last estimated weight measurement placed her at 225 pounds approximately three months ago. Either she's flourished since then, which is highly possible given her youth, or our initial measurement was inaccurate, but remarkably, this sweet and affectionate fatty πŸ– 🐷 🐽 weighed an impressive 260 pounds! After processing, her hanging weight reached 180 pounds.

Now, she's segmented into eighths and dry aging in our garage fridge, awaiting further processing into individual cuts of meat.

Pip's babies....Unlike Oreo, who had her babies in the early morning and just showed up with a surprise litter at breakfast, Pip had her babies in the early afternoon and I was lucky enough to see most of them born. We got no tri-color from Pip, but she did give us 3 full black babies that look just like their Dad, Hammy. We kept the litters separated for the first month or so while the new moms got the hang of things, and because they had no issues feeding each others babies and we wanted to ensure the new babies got all the colostrum and didn't get knocked off the teat by the older piglets. Once everyone was big enough to fight for their place we put the Mama's together again, they were so much happier (the Mama's kept trying to break our barrier fence down and be together) and they raised all the little piglets πŸ– 🐷 🐽 as one happy family, with babies going to whichever Mama they wanted. (It was easy to tell the litters apart, 2 weeks makes a HUGE size difference, even now!)

Oreo's babies.....then and now. Her litter was born May 11, 2024. The tricolor spotted one became a favorite of my sons, named her Monkey. The little black and white one with a spot on his shoulder became the runt and was half the size of his littermates and came to live in the house with us for a couple weeks and we bottle fed him and he became my favorite. They both have a wonderful home now, where they are being raised and loved and will eventually grow from bacon seeds to full grown bacon and ribs, and be loved and spoiled in their time on this earth.

Contact us if you want to raise one of your own, or if you don't have the heart or room to do it yourself, but want to enjoy the delicious spoils of all our love and hard work of a hog share!

Meet the Mama's and Papa! Pip(squeak), Oreo, and Hammond. The girls are getting out and about and fattening up on all the nuts dropping from our nut trees. They lost a bit more weight than I would have liked feeding all those hungry piglets, so they get to dig in the woods for a while. Oreo would hardly pull her nose from the ground for me to get a decent picture!

Their piglets are now almost 5 months old, and will be going to butcher in the new year. Put your deposit down now and get you some yummy bacon, ribs, BBQ, your Easter ham and so much more!

Local, High-Quality Meat: Enjoy the taste of locally sourced, sustainably raised pork.

How It Works:

Reserve Your Share: Secure your share with a $100 deposit.
Processing: We'll process your pig on our next available date. (Early 2025)
Weigh and Price: The final price will be determined by the hanging weight (approximately 80-130 lbs) and the current market rate ($4.50/lb).
Butcher Costs: You'll pay the butcher directly for cutting and packaging.

Note: Hanging weight is typically 60% of the live weight. Our estimate is around 100 lbs hanging weight. Approximately 20% of this is bone, leaving the remainder as muscle and fat.
