I wanted to let everyone know that we so appreciate all your thoughtful and heartfelt condolences for the loss of K-9 Deputy Nero. Our post went viral and there were hundreds of comments. You all need to know how much that means to us and especially Deputy Tim King, who was Nero’s partner. Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement as well. We had Nero cremated and had an urn for Nero engraved by Wally and Matt of Hartman’s Custom Cabinets. What an amazing job they did. Wally wouldn’t accept payment, he and Matt donated their time in designing the engraving. Thank you Wally and Matt.

Our K9 team would like to give a big thank you to Brad Alcorn. After 34 years as a police officer, Brad moved to Curry County for retirement, and has volunteered his time to coach our K9 teams. Thank you for giving us your knowledge & time for 4 years now! Our K-9 unit’s progression & success would not be possible without several community members donating time and funds to keep our K9’s geared up & ready to serve our county 🚔🐾

On Friday, March 11, 2022, at approximately 12:38pm, thirty-two-year-old William Stringham of Brookings was arrested in the Port of Brookings Harbor following an altercation with Port of Brookings Harbor employees, where one of the employees was head butted by Stringham. When Deputies arrived on scene, Stringham ran onto the commercial docks and boarded a commercial fishing vessel. Stringham refused to obey orders to exit from the vessel. During the standoff, deputies learned that there was a firearm on the vessel and that Stringham had access to numerous items on the vessel that could be used as a dangerous or deadly weapon. Ultimately K-9 Axel was deployed by his handler, Deputy Jacob Stout. Stringham was taken to the deck of the boat by K-9 Axel. Stringham continued to resist and after a brief struggle with deputies, Stringham was taken into custody. Stringham was taken to Curry General Hospital where his bite injuries were treated. Stringham was then lodged in the Curry County Jail on charges of Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, Menacing and Resisting arrest.

Thank you all for supporting our K9’s! Be sure to like our page to keep up with our K9’s and the great work they are doing!

Do you have a business or a vacant building in Curry County? Our K9 unit is always looking for new environments to train in! Putting our K9’s in new environments is important because it creates new obstacles, challenges, and scenarios to help us prepare for whatever the next call may bring.

Our K9 Unit is looking for volunteer agitators! An agitator is a person who plays “suspect” in our training scenarios. Agitators are a huge part in the success of our K9’s. We are lucky to have community members volunteering each week to help us. We provide the training & equipment to keep our agitators and our K9’s safe!

K9 Axel Locates Gun After Foot Pursuit!

On 2/16/22 during the late evening hours, a Curry County Deputy & a Gold Beach officer-initiated contact with a potentially armed suspect in Gold Beach. The suspect fled on foot and led our deputy on a lengthy foot pursuit thru several storage units & an apartment complex. The suspect discarded a loaded firearm somewhere in the foot pursuit with the Deputy. Other Deputies & Officers surrounded the area and assisted with the foot pursuit which led to a successful arrest. K9 Axel was called out to locate the firearm.

Our K9’s has several skills and one of them is the ability to locate articles such as weapons and other types of evidence. K9 Axel and his handler responded to the scene and began his article search into the night. K9 Axel successfully located the loaded firearm. K9 Axel did a great job keeping our community safe and locating a critical piece of evidence!

Good Work to all involved!
