Dear Pampered Pooch Family,

Pampered Pooch is closing its doors as of 6/30/23 and will not reopen for business. We opened our family run business in April of 2006 and have been a thriving business and resource in our community since.

We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for an amazing 17 years! Pampered Pooch has been the front runner for pet care in our area since we opened and we are extremely proud of all that we have accomplished during that glorious time. As we look back at the last 17 years it is with gratitude and pride. We have loved serving our community and the varying needs of your pets whether it be in our training and daycare enrichment programs, to grooming and styling all those magnificent haircuts, to fostering and rehoming beloved pets! It has been an amazing ride and now it's time for our family to close the doors as we go into our next chapter of life.

We would also like to shout out to all the employees and volunteers we have had over the years, you know who you are, the impact you had on the lives you cared for and bonds created will be forever cherished!

We could not be more thankful to those who have believed in us and invested in Pampered Pooch. It has been such a privilege to be part of your lives! We will miss every one of you and your pets with all our hearts and wish you all the best in life!

Dogs love and benefit greatly from a good sniffari!

Imagine going to an art gallery and not being allowed to look. Or being taken to a restaurant but not being allowed to eat. Or being given a book but not being allowed to read it.

Or being a dog and not being allowed to sniff….

Sniffing isn’t optional for dogs. It’s not something we should see as an ‘optional extra’ or a ‘nice to have’. It’s central to their experience, their well-being and fundamental to the way they interpret the world around them.

Move slowly, use a longer lead & let them sniff

The dog training industry, never short of drama at the best of times, is currently in an even greater state of turmoil than usual. There are calls from some quarters to ditch the positive reinforcement (R+) label because it is seen as creating division with trainers who choose to use aversive training techniques and because (they say) the public neither care, nor understand, what that label means.

But...I 𝘥𝘰 want a way to clearly communicate how I train. I 𝘥𝘰 want to be clearly differentiated from trainers who will use forceful techniques on your dog. And I 𝘥𝘰 want to give people a clear way to understand what I will, and will not, do when I'm working with them & their dog. And I think much of the public 𝘥𝘰 care (& if they don’t understand what it means it’s our job to teach them).

So I won't be ditching a label which tells people that...

• I will use the kindest methods and equipment I possibly can to teach your dog
• I will use the absolute minimum force I can when teaching your dog. For example, I may physically move your dog using the lead if I need to get them out of a situation they can't cope with but I will never use the deliberate application of force to punish them
• I will seek to build behaviour, not suppress it
• I will seek to address the root cause of problems; not just the symptoms
• I will set your dog up to make good choices which I will then reinforce
• I will not set your dog up to fail in order to punish them
• I will never hurt, startle or scare your dog and I'll never ask you to do that either

I'm happy to use a label which says that I will always do my very best to train with the minimum force possible and the maximum kindness & empathy. I’m happy to use a label which tells you I won’t hurt your dog. I use it, not to drag down others, but to communicate what 𝘐 am about.

When we’re told it’s divisive to describe our work in terms of our ethics and many of our industry’s professional bodies stay silent it can make it daunting to stick your head above the parapet. But those of us who believe that taking a kind, constructive approach to training is important should never feel apologetic for using a label which communicates that.

Professional Pet Groomer

We are searching for an experienced dog groomer with at least 3 years of grooming experience to join our grooming team. If you have an eye for detail, enjoy caring for animals and working with people, a position here might be right for you!

Our ideal candidate must be:

Trained in AKC standard breed cuts
Possess excellent dog handling skills and dog behavior knowledge
Basic breed knowledge
Dedication and pride in turning out high quality work
Respectful, kind, patient and helpful to all clients, dogs and people.
Team player and positive attitude
Motivated, self-driven and engaged
Confident with all sizes and breeds of dogs
Have reliable transportation and able to drive during inclement weather

Responsibilities include:

Bathing, brushing, blow drying, de-matting, cutting or trimming hair, gland expression, teeth brushing, nail clipping and grinding
Provide a thorough hands-on coat and wellness check. Ask questions in regards to the groom and any if there are any new concerns the owner may have, health or otherwise
Engage with pet parents, share knowledge, and educate pet parents
Have interest in animal welfare, humanity over vanity
Professionally and kindly interact with pet parents in-person, via email, text, and phone to proactively communicate and provide exceptional customer service
Maintain a clean, safe work environment
Set up future appointments to ensure the individual grooming needs are performed in a timely manner and with consistency to promote overall dog wellness
Other duties as assigned

Brushes, hydraulic table, dryers, nail clippers/dremels, towels and shampoo/conditioner are all supplied. Employees must provide clippers, blades, and scissors.
