Milestone alert! Allison trotted independently for the first time last weekend, and I am so proud!
She said, "I'm a very advanced horsewoman now, aren't I?"
Watching my students achieve their goals is the reason I get up early on Saturday mornings.

All made possible by our horses. We are so thankful that ours are the best partners we could ask for. This is Forrest, and he's one of our two equine partners. After listening patiently while his student Emily practiced reading aloud (well, maybe he took a nap), he enjoyed some attention and pets.

We had the best weekend! Lessons started up for the summer, and we were all so excited we didn't even mind wearing our winter coats. We welcomed a returning student and were thrilled to welcome a new student as well. Summer 2021 is going to be amazing!

Summer 2020 recap:
Allison's academic goal was improving recall of multiplication facts. Flashcard drills can get boring, so we included plenty of "rewards" during her lesson. Here she is lassoing some stuffed animals-- she's got good aim!

Bentley has been riding Forrest for several summers, and last summer he started riding Forrest independently. That requires focus, problem solving, and planning. I love this picture because you can see the focus in both the horse and rider. This is teamwork!

More highlights from 2020:
Airyana worked on her sight words while riding my mare Hailey. She used a hoop to "lasso" each sight word after identifying it from the group of words. Way more fun than staring at flashcards!

Last summer, Allison worked with Hailey, my 17-year-old Spotted Draft mare. Allison said, "I like how her mane is parted to one side. It looks nice, like she's going on a date."

I'm always excited to see my students at the beginning of the summer, but this year I'm extra grateful for the chance to watch these kids learn and grow. It's been a long winter, but summer is here! Watch as these kids learn horsemanship skills and practice their academic skills so they'll be ready when they go back to school.
