Can you pick out which photo is really me?! Interestingly if you know Enneagram theory, we are the same Enneagram type an Eight with a seven wing. Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and General Patton were the same type. We can be a bit eccentric.

As I was in the ER for 12 hours with an eye issue, I couldn’t be extravagant with a custom for Halloween. So, I decided to be Jack Nicholson from the Shining.

The eye issue is an issue, but it didn’t require an emergency surgery. I had a rather dramatic disturbance in my upper right visual field. Apparently, the virtuous human pulled away from other structures.

I can see with some blurry esa and dark streaks in a small area. It improved a lot even in the ER. However, I can’t lift more than 5-10 lbs. or bend over for 4-6 weeks.

The dogs that fall under the Pitbull umbrella often get an undeserved bad rap. For much of US history they were the most popular breed. Simply recall the RCA record label, Buster Brown Shoe’s logo or the Our Gang comedy of the 1930s.

Prior to 1900 the Pitbull was used as a nurse maid dog. If there bloodline is free of certain mixes that destabilize the temperament, they are actually one of the breeds least likely to bite people. They are one of the most stolen breeds for this reason.

It is our responsibility as owners to be an ambassador as we are asking them to live comfortably in our world. That is a tall order and they need our help. On the flip side, I can honestly say all of my dogs have given me more than I could ever give them.

I hope Peach’s can be an ambassador for her breed and dogs in general. When things go wrong with this breed or any breed, it generally a on our part to put in the time necessary to bring out their best, supervise and teach them well.

Peaches did a lot of training today. If you want to follow her including training updates FRIEND Peach’s Place. I set it up as a regular profile.

Today, she did sit (A), Down (C), Come (B ), Pick it Up (C ), Get it (C ), Stay (B*), Kennel Up (A), Hide and Seek (B ). I worked her about 3 x 30 minutes. She probably did between 150-200 commands!

She can already do some other things, but I’m just starting to lay the foundation for that. I want to chain complex behaviors together into one command. She actually has potential as a service dog.

Peaches met the mailman, some neighbors, two dogs, one cat and a squirrel. She was very solid around a “stay” with any animal.

It’s official … the new dog is Peaches! She had her name etched with a laser onto an aluminum dog tag and everything.

So far Peaches is doing great. She is very sweet and loves her crate. Generally, I don’t close the door except at night.

Interestingly, she is mellow around people, other dogs, cats and even squirrels. She seems to like men a lot, but is generally a cuddle bug.

I’m already thinking through a training progression. Today, we will play “hide and seek” with two people over three floors and speed up the “come command.”

For this breed, Peaches is intelligent and very trainable. Both food and affection are big motivators. For the first year, I like to make my dogs work for everything — food, going outside, access to other dogs, etc.

Olga suggested the name Peach, but we went with Peaches. That’s good as the list of prospective names had about 75 to consider.
