We are looking for a full or part time RECEPTIONIST/and VET ASSISTANT at Underwood Animal Hospital in Heath. Answering phones,scheduling, checking clients in and taking payment along with handling animals at check in and assisting the veterinarians as needed. $15/hr to start for the 90day trial period. The BUGS are out and this little item is our local venomous spider the Brown Recluse.
The ticks are wide awake already and I find one on myself every time I walk the dogs in the woods or underbrush now!
My dogs are on Bravecto. I am not…
Fleas are next to join the party so be one step ahead with preventives now. Keep your dogs on Heartworm preventive like Interceptor Plus also since mosquitos will increase steadily. Use some product like Bravecto for fleas that also kills Ticks now since the Deer tick spreads Lyme disease and we are seeing positive tests on our dog patients on a regular basis. It is no longer a rare finding. Lyme is out there in the tick population always now!
Last but not least…..if your dog is itching or licking itself constantly but no fleas are seen….allergy season is here Also! In our business every season is some kind of allergy season. Spring and fall are just worse!
We have Cytopoint and many other treatments to keep your pet comfortable, happy and looking good!

Blindness in older dogs is not uncommon. Cataracts can cause it gradually and that gives them time to adapt. Nerve issues can happen rapidly and can be upsetting for your dog until they adapt. Hearing, smell, and vibrations help blind pets navigate as they learn where the furniture is. Cataracts can sometimes be removed but nerve degeneration is untreatable.

The Twenty First Street location is closed permanently. The main office, Underwood Animal Hospital in Heath at 1176 Hebron Rd is remaining open and will absorb 21st Street clients as needed. We are sorry for the inconvenience!

21st Street Vet Clinic will be temporarily closing due to staffing issues. The Underwood Animal Hospital will be open and seeing appointments and surgeries. Please call 740-522-3249. We will be trying our best to reach out and reschedule and cancel appointments. Please be understanding to the staff. This is not a decision made lightly.

Here is my black cat Halle Berry eating in the kennel cage we will use to transport her to our new house. By feeding her and her brother Caper in it for a couple weeks before moving we can close them in during feeding and the stress of catching and caging is eliminated. We will leave it open for them at the new house so they have a familiar place to hide if they want.

Finding baby animals alone this time of year does not mean they are abandoned. The mother often leaves to go feed and returns to nurse the young when no one is around. Trying to rescue healthy looking young may be the worst thing to do. You may find the nests in unusual places close to housing. Keeping pets away from the area if possible is the first thing to do.

Not an exciting picture but an important one.
Here is a live tick just pulled off my own dog, Stella, today March 28. It’s on a paper towel on the kitchen counter zoomed in so you don’t see my dirty dishes. 🤓
But….my very own dog is not on tick prevention yet!!
I am old and forget TICKS START EARLY!
Do as I say and not as I do: Flea and Tick preventives now! (I am starting)

The 21st Street Vet Clinic is very sad to announce the passing of our beloved clinic kitty Dapper this past Thursday due to multiple worsening health issues leading to his quality of life declining. He left a mark on all the people he met and likely sassed. He invaded purses, sat on keys, knocked over charts and bottles of pills and regularly added his "Dapper discount" to the prescription food bags. He will be missed by many.
