Three seconds after I took this picture, this lovely little kitty fell sound asleep in my arms. Her name is mouse and she is currently four weeks old. I have been bottle raising her since a day or two after she was born. She's coming along very nicely and loves to be held. Mouse has an amazing purr! She will be up for adoption from PAWS Vet Center in Port Richey in about a month from now. Please pass this around as she will be looking for her forever home.

Meet Kat our new rescue kitty. She should be well enough in about 4 weeks to find a new forever home with someone. Very lovable.

A veterinarian called and asked if I could take a neonatal (bottle baby) kitten. I did. This is a week-ish old female muted tortoiseshell baby.

There are a couple of things about this post. One this kitten was probably not abandoned or lost. This kitten is in such good shape for being just a few days old I think mom just went off to find food and left the kitten in a spot. She would've picked him up later . I appreciate people think they're doing the right thing when they pick up what they believe might be an abandoned animal. If you find a baby somewhere, make sure it's got shade or some kind of overhead protection without hiding it and leave it be. Watch for the mother she will probably be back within a few hours. This little baby would've been much better off with her mother than with me.

The other thing is, people are liking this page and commenting. It's all great. But the bottom line is this kittens going to need to go to a new home. I'm hoping all the people who comment on this are going to join me and talking to people that they know about looking into adopt a little female kitten . I absolutely cannot have another pet. It is way too stressful on me and my finances.

Beef Stew/Soup in process. Could be chicken or veggie. A lot of what I'm canning now is in preparation for storm season and what I don't need for that will last me years in the pantry.

The heat is on, and many parts of Florida are in serious need of rainfall. Forget trying to grow temperate-climate vegetables here during the summer – you'll have more success with sub-tropical and tropical crops.

Here's what to put in the ground now (plants or seeds): achira, African blue basil, aibika, arrowroot, boniato, cassava, chaya, chayote, cranberry hibiscus, galanga, katuk, long beans, longevity spinach, malabar spinach, malanga, molokhia, moringa, Okinawa spinach, okra, ruby hibiscus,sissoo spinach, southern peas, oregano, papalo, quilquina, roselle, sweet potatoes, taro/dasheen and tindora.

Many of these are perennial crops that can be planted once and harvested for years, or they will self-seed year after year. What are you waiting for?

Meet Miss Sassy Pants. The latest rescue. Six weeks old and finally healthy. This picture is not staged. She got into this all by herself!

The larger kitty to the right in this picture is Missy. The kitty by her side is her daughter Ellie, who is three months old.

Her story. She was a small pregnant stray who had recently lost a litter when she showed up at my house. At that point she was probably pregnant again and a few weeks later presented me with four kittens. She terrorized my cats trying to protect herself and her babies. Even though by this time she had chased most of my cats out of the house and they are absolutely terrified of her.
Unfortunately, three of the kittens passed away and Ellie is the only survivor. Two weeks following the birth of her kittens, Missy went into heat again. Yes she got pregnant. She stopped producing milk and I had to bottlefeed little Ellie. I did make the hard decision of taking her to have her spayed. At this time the vet estimated she was not yet one year old and was on her third litter. She has been spayed and has her shots.

I have come to the realization that Missy needs to be in another home with no other cats. She needs to be a one and only. I'm not asking my friends to adopt her, I am asking my friends to reach out to others who may be interested in having a loving, good cat that just can't be around other cats. Heck I know people like that. Shelters are full. Rescues are severely overloaded. There is only one other option and don't want to go there.

Unless the storm comes in earlier tomorrow Leann and I will be at Tasty Tuesday. We will have a scaled-down version in light of the wind they're predicting, but in addition to our breads jams and other tasty morsels we finally have fresh produce to offer. There will be blue collard greens, arugula, curly kale, and probably a small amount of Swiss chard. 4 types of bean sprouts too. Anyone wishing for fresh herbs such as parsley, Culantro or Bayleaf can let me know and I'll be happy to bring some with me.
I will try to remember the cat toys this time. I'm not sure we're going to have plants. We're just going to have to see what the weather's going to do.

Assuming the weather cooperates next week, we will have lots of veggie and herb starts for your garden.
