Hey all! You may or may not have heard, but Facebook is taking posts and images and using them for their own gain, claiming right to everything shared. They denied my claim to my own data (as the US has no protections for this stuff). Therefore, you won't be seeing much from Edraith anymore.

Her exploits do get shared on mastodon (@flipping.rocks) if you are on there you are welcome to follow us.

For now this page will stay up, as likely it's been scraped already.

See ya on the flipside, in spaces we retain the rights to our own works!

In case anyone was worried that Edraith would have a boring retirement, she isn't, she is just living life at her own speed - which is still occasionally SuperFast - but is a lot more of wandering, sniffing, rolling, swimming, and digging!
(PS anyone not around here - that background buzz/hum is indeed cicadas from brood XIX)

Thank you so much to Dr Nelms at Blue Pearl in Birmingham for Edraith's free eye exam as a part of the ACVO national eye exams for working dogs. Edraith has normal age related issues plus a spot we will be keeping an eye on; if the draining attempt and antibiotics don't help it may be a tumor in her eyelid (almost always benign, but worth surgery to fix if it bothers her...which it does). She is sporting her Rex Specs due to the dilation needed for the exam (just like as done for people eye exams). We had enough time to stop off at a hiking spot before dinner with a friend.

PS if anyone wants a pair of Rex Specs for their dog, I have an extra pair never used new in box for sale...I don't use them as much as I thought so we only need the one pair. Photo in comments :)

Yesterday, Edraith retired from Search & Rescue. When I got her, I was planning to do SAR, but we ended up on a team that lacked a lot of skills and I left. When she was 2 years old, I found another team, who uses national certifications and trains to a high standard, and has lead trainers who understand behaviour & training. First came undoing bad habits from the less than stellar team, then training the find, alert, and refind sequences and putting it all together. When she was almost 4, we certified through NASAR in wilderness area, live find, and maintained that re-testing a couple of times during her carrer. Yesterday, almost 10.5 years old, she had a fun last run, finding my partner at a cave, and having a feast of Arby's roast beef sandwiches. 😊 Thank you so much to my friend Helen for taking photos for us!

I never thought we would get here...it was never a goal until recently when I realised...wait...we are kinda close!

Two different angles for yesterday's gotcha day photos, the full sizes not the cropped in ones for the yearly layout :) The angle varies year to year somewhat, and I don't think I am consistent with the lens I use, but hey the thought is there and it's easy to tell it's the same rock :)

Happy Gotcha Day, Edraith!

We take this photo on the same rock every year (except for 2016 which local construction made it off limits so we tried a different rock) and its fun to see the small changes year to year. Some years Spring is further along than other years, and it's funny how most years it's cloudy (but, that's nice for photography so I'm not complaining, the sunny years were rough to photograph).
