Since most of our staff has a potentially hazardous commute and Duval County has closed most services, we have decided to reschedule today's appointments. If you have something scheduled, we'll be calling today to reschedule you!

Our first patient to try Bonqat - the new medication to treat the anxiety of transport and veterinary visits - gives it 5 stars! Snickers is Dr. Kane’s grandkitty, and had to undergo 2 long days of traveling through 8 states for a move. Dr. Kane was her driver, and reports that she was very relaxed but not sedated, no meowing, no dilated pupils, no scratching at the carrier - even at a drive thru with a loud UPS truck and Gus (who she hates) barking. It was really easy to give, too - a small volume of liquid that she didn’t try to spit out! Zoetis

We are THRILLED to announce that Dr. Madison Rigdon has joined our team! We love her positive energy and thorough approach to patient care, and we know you will too!

Dr. Rigdon grew up in Merritt Island, a small town off the coast of Central Florida very close to where they launch rockets at NASA. She then attended the University of Florida where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. After this, she decided to pursue her passion for animal medicine at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine for her DVM. Dr. Rigdon has a passion for small animal medicine and in particular, loves feline medicine and diagnostic imaging! She has one very spoiled tuxedo cat named Ares, and lives in Jacksonville with her partner Greg. In her free time, she loves to tend to her vegetable garden, read books, go to the beach and travel.

Since she joined Oceanview last fall, many of you have had the chance to meet the wonderful Dr. Natalie Hashey. But did you know that she provides care for exotic pets too? Dr. Hashey is a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, is a Jacksonville native, and keeps very busy caring for her husband, 4 children, and her own small zoo of pets. Let us know if you need help with your furry (or scaly, or slimy...) family members!

Help us celebrate Betsy this week! There is no one more committed to veterinary medicine than Betsy. She's held every position in the hospital since her first job in high school (no one is counting how many years that is...). She will always take the extra time to advocate for your pet, especially if they need specialist care. Betsy does so much more to keep our hospital running smoothly, and we couldn't survive without her! As part of the team, she's also usually the one responsible for practical jokes and weird photos on your phone if you leave it unattended, but we still love our Betsy!

Help us celebrate Mimi this week! Mimi has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 2009, so brings tremendous medical experience to her new role as receptionist. You can always trust Mimi to know how serious your pet's problem is.
She also keeps everyone in line, but rewards us with her amazing curry at staff potlucks! If the music is right in treatment, sometimes we get to witness her fabulous dance moves too. We love Mimi!

Help us celebrate Jenn this week! She brings years of experience in specialty and ER reception, but most of all her caring and empathy never wavers, no matter how busy we get. She also keeps us all up to date on trending news - whether a storm is coming, a major political upheaval is happening, or someone famous has done something crazy! We love Jenn!

Help us celebrate Chelo this week! In addition to her 15 years' experience as a veterinary receptionist and her Spanish speaking skills, Chelo is glue for our team. She is always positive and is there with a hug whenever anyone on the team needs one. She is quick and efficient in the lobby, but also frequently feeds us with home baked treats! She's a fabulous Spanish tutor as well, but claims that the bad words she teaches Dr. Kane really come from her brother at home in Spain...We love Chelo!

It's Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week! It's hard to describe how important (and difficult) the job of a Veterinary Receptionist is. They are you and your pet's first advocate at the hospital - triage starts with them! They are constantly juggling multiple tasks while being empathetic to every patient, owner, and the stress levels of the rest of the staff. A Veterinary Receptionist has to be thick skinned, a quick thinker, and have a high level of emotional intelligence and medical knowledge! Please help us thank these clinic rock stars this week!

Veterinary Receptionists do so much more than make appointments. They triage and are the first advocates for pets. They welcome new babies and help owners grieve lost ones. We are ecstatic that there is now a treatment for chronic arthritis pain in our kitty patients. This is something we've ignored for decades because there weren't really effective and safe treatments, and because cats are REALLY good at hiding their pain. Here's a video showing Dr. Kane's kitty Snickers showing the classic signs of a cat with arthritis going down stairs - even though she can still catch a rat!
