For over five generations, our neighborhood pet market has been one of the largest retailers of natural and organic pet foods in Southeast Louisiana. With five locations in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas featuring a range of products for almost any kind of pet you could

think of, our customers can count on our deep knowledge and passion for animals. We host pet adoption events, as well as other in-store opportunities to connect people and pets in our community. In addition to the pet products and services we provide to pet owners, we’re also home to a wide selection of high quality farm and garden supplies–everything from pots, soil, fertilizers, pavers, flowers, and more. Help us find these sweet boys a home of their own!

Meet Bruno & Zeke! They have been with us 3 months and 1 day today with little to no interest for their adoption.

They were surrendered to the shelter because their owner passed away. They are a bonded pair at 10ish years young. Bruno is a Chihuahua and Zeke is a Pomeranian.

When they first came to us August 10th, they had not so great poops, we won't go into details of how bad but pretty bad. After deworming and experimenting with different foods, we have found that Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Diet is what works best for them. We have also added some Bernie's Perfect Poops supplement to their food. We even order the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Treats and they love them!

Zeke has a little arthritis so he's on 25mg of Carprofen a day which he takes easily in a spoonful of wet food. He isn't a fan of being picked up which we totally understand but he let's us just trim him with the clippers pretty easily without having to pick him up. Bruno just goes with the flow. But definitely don't take his brother Zeke away from him.

The president of our board doesn't understand how they are still here. While yes, our Programs Director, Volunteer Dog Adoption Coordinator and many volunteers LOVE the senior under dogs, we have so many senior dogs still kicking and outliving vet expectations in our personal homes and some of us already have more dogs than most people think is normal (cough cough 17 cough) but we can't take more home if we don't want to end up single pet parents.

So this is where you come in? Who's looking for 2 senior dogs that just want to chill on a dog bed in your home and go out to potty when you say so and eat Royal Canin Gastro Food? They are so easy! All of our volunteers love to come walk them. One of the Jefferson Feed staff members took them for the last hurricane and said they were perfect house guests without any accidents. They are move in ready and waiting for a wonderful owner to give them a home the rest of their days!

Join us on Saturday for a Dog Adoption Day, in partnership with Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS), from 10am to 1pm. JPAWS will be bringing seven adoptable dogs in need of a forever home. Following their recent intake of over 40 dogs from a single residence, every adoption will make a significant impact by opening kennel space for another deserving animal. Your support of local shelters through adoption is invaluable.

Summers can be really tough on shelters as adoptions are lower since most people are traveling. Please come see some of the amazing dogs that will be here and help kick off the Clear the Shelters National Event and adopt a new fur family member!
