Adventures of the Tail Boot
Some of you may be wondering how the Tail Boot came about. Well here is the quicker version! I have always loved long tails. I went to Texas on a college rodeo scholarship and spent 6 years going to school so I could potentially be a rodeo coach myself but the truth of the matter is I loved college rodeo and the year I got my Masters Degree was the first year they allowed students to rodeo for a 5th year. So I just kept going to school until I could no longer rodeo! I have always had a few too many horses. The rule of thumb was you could not go anywhere unless the trailer was full. So I was sure to keep enough to fill it up! Plus my soon to be husband rodeoed as well and so that added to my list of horses to maintain. On my 6th year of school I only had to attend one semester to graduate and then I was off to Connecticut where my husband is from to start helping out with his family business. Once we arrived life changed, priorities changed, taking care of 12 horses a day was not a reality (we had bought a few more horses to bring to CT because we were going to start training some). I ended up getting an earlier start to starting my family than I was expecting and as many of you understand when you have kids things take 3x’s the amount of time to accomplish. So, I pulled all my tail bags, trimmed all my tails and called that a day for a couple of years. Finally, after baby #2 we moved back to my hometown in Idaho. I couldn’t handle my short tailed horses any longer! The flies and gnats are so bad here in the summer they swish their tails to pieces. I knew there had to be something that didn’t tangle nearly as bad as putting a tail in a tail bag. I tried the whole vet wrap and twine thing but it was so hard to get off and it never stayed in place. So I started to do some thinking. It took some trial and error but I am really in love with the 2nd generation Tail Boot. It acts realistic. Horses don’t have to work near as hard as they do to get the flies like with a tail bag. It’s easy to use, durable and quiet. Even though we still have too many horses, riding and roping is still what my husband and I like to do and now we are fortunate enough to be able to continue our adventures with two children in tow!
