Adding some of the “more fun” buttons to this 3 yr old 🤠
Still working on getting my pivo dialed in- it does not want to track “smooth” and I can’t figure out how to tweak that? If you have a pivo and have any suggestions I’m all ears.
I really need to get better about taking first day/ride videos. This 3 yr old has only been here 2 weeks and came in with a lot anxiety- she could get herself into a lathered sweat just walking and would head toss and chomp etc
This is not perfect by any means and day 1 of her trotting some small circles. I am okay with our circles being “okay” at this time, as long as I can feel the effort and we can stay relaxed. The circle always needs to be the “happy” place for the barrel horses- even at this stage in the game. Your horse has to be “relaxed” to be trainable- can you think or retain when you are wound tight and full of anxiety? Instead of pushing this mare harder and faster I have backed off and in return have gotten a lot further, faster. Remember slow is fast in all aspects of horse training- you can hold them accountable and add pressure in different, effective ways without pounding on one. The goal is never to scare them. I loved feeling her happily find a jog on a loose rein when I “dumped” her coming out of the circles. I’m looking forward to getting this one a lot more independently broke, using herself correctly, then heading to the barrels. I am going to try to do “progress” videos along the way.

It’s time to get serious about hauling and exhibitioning… or entering this one 😌
First time loping through
This is the same 3 yr old I shared about last week- Building blocks- finding all of his spots on his own this week 🤗
This 3 yr old always wants me to be holding his hand- slowly working on making him take accountability for himself. When they make the wrong decision, I never get upset with them, I just put them right back where their feet belong & then move on. When they find the right answer- I always let them go on right away. Keep it simple peeps!
