We’ve had much interest in our incisor shaft, lately! Our incisor shaft is designed for work on horse’s incisor teeth, and while corrections on incisors can be controversial, incisor work may well be appropriate after examination and clinic diagnosis.

It should be noted that incisor work should only be completed by skilled, licensed, experienced equine veterinarians.

Did you know the Terafloat’s head can rotate in 90-degree increments? The head can be rotated 90-degrees by pulling the head forward, turning the head with the lower sleeve until the desired position is achieved. ⚙️

This is no April Fools’ Joke!

Our Terafloat does NOT require daily lubricating. We recommend keeping the Terafloat in good shape by cleaning the dental debris from the instrument with the included utility brush (with water) and a quick towel dry after each dental. Even though the Terafloat does not require daily greasing, we do recommend sending it to us annually for routine maintenance. During routine maintenance, the technicians will inspect the instrument, replace worn seals/bearings/etc, and lubricate the necessary components for you (i.e. turnflex, shaft connection threads, head connection threads.)

However, if you’re wanting to take the next extra step and clean and lubricate any areas, these photos exhibit the areas you can use a food grade grease on.

Yesterday, Dr. Ruedi and Lauren went to Vonore, TN to float this miniature stallion! This mini needed his uneven incisors worked on and his hooks/points floated. We were able to use our flush syringe, 300 Lumen headlamp, Pony Mighty speculum, and the entire ‘Terafloat FLX Professional XL’ system on the grateful patient.

Dr. Ruedi Steiger utilizing the Terafloat FLX system on this dwarf mini yesterday in Corryton, Tennessee! The FLX pony shaft, FLX profiling shaft, and FLX incisor shaft all played a crucial part in helping this miniature gelding’s dentistry. The FLX line is worn on the waist, has a flexible drive cable, and has magnetic shafts for a quick interchange.

February is National Pet Dental Health Month. While horses don’t exactly qualify as pets, this is still a good opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of having a veterinarian check your horse’s teeth at least once a year.

Following is some important food for thought (pun intended) courtesy of AAEP member Dr. Christine Staten:

“Did you know that horses don’t really need their incisors to eat? Yep, even pasture. But if their incisors are a mess, it affects their ability to appropriately grind their food with their molars and pre-molars.

Dental work in horses is not just about floating teeth to get off points. It’s about balancing the mouth so that they can get the most nutrition out of their food without pain.

Shearing hay in the mouth is necessary to get the nutrition out. The guy in the picture was skinny because he could not move his jaw laterally enough to shear his food, but his health and body condition score improved significantly once the incisors were balanced.”
