Run by the keepers of Claws 'N' Paws Wild Animal Park. Updates on the animals & a little bit of the inside scoop on some of the keepers favorite animals.

Claws 'N' Paws is a private zoo in the heart of Lake Ariel. It's often called "the zoo in the woods" because of it's woodland setting. We are open May until mid-late October. Throughout the day there are a number of keeper-lead activities, many of which are designed to give the public a closer interaction with our animals. Lory parrot feedings and turtle town are some of our favorites

s run entirely by our keepers. All the photos, updates and stories are from the keepers who work with these animals every day. We love our animals very much and know that many of you care about them too and we cant wait to share their lives with you. Keep in touch over the winter too. Although you may not be able to come and visit them yourself, we promise to keep you updated and post lots of pictures of all your favorites. If you have any questions we'd be more than happy to answer them and would love to see all the great pictures you've taken too. If you have a favorite animal that you'd like to see more of, just let us know and we will do our best.

Whatya mean it's already September?! Time sure does fly by when you're having fun at your local zoo!

Today is also International Primate Day. Primates play a vital role in their surroundings ecosystem, but unfortunately, many primate species are either in decline or are already endangered. They face dangers such as poaching, the illegal pet trade, and habitat destruction.

We often get questions about our New Guinea Singing Dog, Link. He is still hanging around as an old man at 14 years old. He is often kept off display due to the stress that large crowds, thunderstorms, and the heat sometimes cause him. Link struggles with a heart condition and has to be kept as calm as possible, so during the day, he is kept in a quiet, cool building to relax. He goes on daily walks with his keepers and even comes out at night time when the customers have gone and it cools down.

Please help us welcome Java to the zoo crew! Java is a Curl-Crested Araçari. They are a part of the toucan family and are originally found in Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil but we are very happy to have him here with us!

Why do caracals have ear tufts?

There are a few reasons …. it is believed it’s a way to communicate with other caracals, to help camouflage them when sitting in tall grass, and to help keep flies away from their face.

The king (and queen) of the jungle are celebrating today for World Lion Day 🦁

World Lion Day was founded to raise awareness about the challenges lions face in the wild. Lion numbers are decreasing drastically for a number of reasons. The biggest threats lions face are poaching and habitat loss. Their numbers have dropped by 43% , so it's important to conserve the number of lions we have left.

It's been Hot Hot Hot here at the zoo for keepers and animals alike. The zoo crew has been doing everything they can do to help keep their animals cool and hydrated. They have frozen their treats in ice blocks, given them buckets of ice to root around in, they are spraying them down with cool water, and refilling their waters constantly. At this point, we believe the animals are handling this heat better than their keepers! Guess you can say Summer is officially here! 🌞

With Christmas fast approaching, Santa is finalizing his Naughty and Nice list. Don't worry, it has been checked twice! Edgar wants to remind everyone that today is officially our last day open for the season!

What is that sound?! That is our alligator, Mr. Big, bellowing! What does mean? Alligators will bellow to communicate to another alligator how big they are. This happens especially during breeding season and both male and female alligators will make this sound. Enjoy the video!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our favorites. The winner of this years Sassy Senior contest , Franklin , has crossed over the rainbow bridge. Franklin came to the zoo when he was just 3 years old …. And lived another 16 wonderful years. Throughout all those years … Franklin has gained many admirers due his cute little button nose. One of our favorite traits was when Franklin would “talk” back to us in his own special otter way. We, and his best friend Eater , will miss him dearly and we will one day see him on the “otter” side. ♥️. RIP Franklin.
