I wanted to take another moment to thank our wonderful clients for their patience and kindness over the past 2 months. Our only doctor has been going through some serious health complications that has resulted in her being out of the hospital unexpectedly on many days. We are doing our best to try to find extra doctor help, but with Havasu being so remote, it is difficult.
Dr. Baker is working hard with her doctors to get on the mend and find a resolution, but in the meantime we have had to reschedule appointments on days, and we are so thankful for our clients who are understanding with the situation!
We know it is stressful when your pet needs to be seen, and we don't like having to reschedule!
Thank you so very much!! We appreciate you!🐾

Did you know that August is National Dog Month?
Here's some fun facts for you!

*The Labrador Retriever has been on the AKC top 10 most popular breeds list for longer than any other breed!

*45% of U.S. dogs sleep in their owner's bed

*70% of people sign their dog's name on their holiday cards!

*Both human and dog's blood pressure lowers when petting a dog!

*Ever wonder why your dog will eat some disgusting things? Well, while humans have up to 10,000 taste buds, dogs only have around 1,700!

*A Greyhound would beat a Cheetah in a race! While a Cheetah can run twice as fast as a Greyhound, they can only do so for about 30 seconds, while a Greyhound can maintain their speed for about 7 miles!

*Your dog's nose print is as unique as a human finger print!

Are your pet's ears bothering them?

Ensuring your pet's ears are clean and infection free is essential for their overall well-being.

Symptoms of an ear infection may include:
Ear discharge
Excessive scratching at the ears
Shaking head
Inflamed ears
Odor from the ears
Head tilt
scabs around the ears

🐾Ear infections are a common issue with many dogs. An estimated 20% of the entire dog population has some form of ear disease. Dogs with floppy ears, such as Basset Hounds, Beagles, doodles, and cocker spaniels are especially prone to ear infections!

🐾Common causes of ear infections: Allergies, foreign bodies in the ear (fox tails), ear mites, excessive moisture from bathing or swimming, and ear trauma.

Ear infections can be painful, and if left untreated can lead to resistant bacterial infections and permanent hearing loss.
If your dog or cat's ears are bothering them, let us know and have your pet's ears examined for infection!

We just wanted to take a moment to extend a HUGE thank you to our clients!
Our doctor was very sick last week, resulting in rescheduling, moving many appointments, and even having to close the hospital!
We are so grateful for those clients who were kind and understanding during this difficult situation. 🐾🖤
we always want to help as many pets as we can, and it's disheartening to have to call and say we have to move them out further!
Thank you so much for your understanding! 🐾

Is Arthritis slowing your pet down?

Signs of arthritis include limping after exercise, hesitancy to jump, decrease activity, difficulty rising, stiffness, increased sleeping, urination/defecation outside the litter box, and even changes in personality (less social for dogs, and sometimes increased irritability with cats!).

Arthritis refers to the inflammation of one or more joints. The most common type of arthritis in dogs and cats is Osteoarthritis, in which the cartilage at the end of the bone deteriorates and the surrounding fluid thins causing pain, stiffness, and inflammation.

There are options!
🐾Joint supplements such as Dasuquin and Cosequin contain Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Omega-3 fatty acids.
🐾Weight loss - high body weight puts additional strain on the joints and contributes to inflammation. Weight loss can increase mobility.
🐾Pain/inflammation management with anti-inflammatories and pain medication.
🐾Longer term pain management options:
🐈 Solensia is an injection given once monthly to help with the pain of osteoarthritis in cats! We have many patients using this who are jumping/playing like kittens again!
🐩 Librela is a medication given as a once a month injection that offers longer lasting pain relief for dogs! We have been seeing fantastic results with this medication!

Let us know if you are interested in exploring options for your pet!

Spring is in the air!!!.. unfortunately, so is pollen!
Just like humans, pets can experience the troubles that allergy season can bring. With all the rain we had, we are seeing a particularly bad allergy season for both pets and humans!

Some symptoms that your pet has allergies:
🐾 Excessive scratching, licking, or biting their skin (particularly paws)
🐾 Red, inflamed, or infected skin
🐾 inflamed and itchy ears
🐾 Excessive shedding
🐾 Red eyes and sneezing

Pets have several options to aid in itching from allergies. What starts out as itching or licking at skin can escalate into skin infections!
Talk to your veterinarian if your pet is experiencing seasonal allergies!

Did you know tomorrow, March 13th, is K9 Veterans day? It is a day to solute our military working dogs!

🐶According to the U.S. Department of Defense, there are over 2,000 active-duty military working dogs serving in the U.S. armed forces!
🐺Most military working dogs retire after about 10 years, and the American Humane society estimates that each dog saves between 150-200 lives during their service!
🐕‍🦺Dogs have served side-by-side in every major American conflict, however on March 13th,1942, during World War II, their service was officially recognized!

Just like humans, pets can experience kidney impairment and even disease. However, with early diagnosis and intervention, many pets can live a normal, happy life.

🐾Did you know that 1 in 10 dogs and 1 in 3 cats will develop kidney disease?
🐾The odds increase with age. A recent study has shown that 41% of cats between the age of 10-14 develop kidney disease.
🐾For our older cats aged 14 and up the percentage skyrockets to over 80%!

With March being , we wanted to highlight signs of kidney disease and preventive methods.
To help spread knowledge and awareness on kidney health – share this post!

Is your pet up to date on their annual exam?
🐈🐕🦜🐇🐢🐍🦎🐭🐹
🐾Did you know that according to the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics, it is unethical, and in most states illegal, for a veterinarian to dispense, refill, or write a prescription for medication without a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship.

What does this mean?
🐾A Veterinarian-Client-Patient relationship is maintained when a pet comes in for an examination annually. So if your pet has not been seen within 12 months, we cannot refill any prescriptions.
It is important to have your pet examined yearly to ensure any medical issues are found and handled as early as possible, and also to avoid any delays in refilling important medications!

Did you know January is Weight Loss Awareness Month?

* The #1 diagnosis in our pets is overweight/obesity.
*Always check the calories on your treats! There are many low calorie options that are less than 5 calories a piece. Some treats are as high as 600 calories each!
*Calories are often listed as "kcal" on pet products, take a look at your pet's treats!
*Keep in mind that some breeds are meant to be very lean (ie: sight hounds), others are meant to be bulky (ie: mastiff breeds), however excessive weight can cause damage to joints, lead to diabetes, difficulty breathing, lethargy, and more!

Check out the chart below to see how your pet shapes up.

A well-maintained diet in pets can help prevent diabetes, heart disease, respiratory distress, and more. Stock up today on our veterinary-recommended options to help keep your pet healthy and happy. You may even qualify for discounted shipping by choosing auto-ship!

Thanksgiving is upon us! Just a few quick reminders for the upcoming holiday! 🍗🥧🍂

🐾We will be closed on Thursday 11/23 and Friday 11/24 to allow our team to spend time with their families. We will re-open on Monday 11/27 for normal business hours.

🐾Remember to keep table scraps away from your pets, and trash cans with delicious food bits closed tightly! While turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy are delicious, it can cause tummy aches in our pets, and even lead to Pancreatitis!
