⭐ Celebrating Diversity and Excellence on Juneteenth! ⭐
Today, we honor Dr. Geri Lake-Bakaar, our visionary CEO and founder, and a trailblazer in veterinary cardiology. As one of fewer than 2% of black veterinarians, Dr. Lake-Bakaar's journey from Harvard and Cornell to becoming a DACVIM in Cardiology at UC Davis is a testament to her unwavering dedication and expertise. Dr. Lake-Bakaar also enriches the field through teaching and educational leadership, embodying excellence and empowerment every step of the way. Beyond her pioneering career, she finds joy in marathons, horseback riding, and cherished moments with her daughter. Today and every day, we celebrate her remarkable achievements and impact! 🐾💛
Happy National Take Your Cat To Work Day 🐈
Ani is here to make sure her Mom is working hard so she can keep bringing home the good treats!
Dogs and cats often come into contact with ticks when they are outside. Like humans, pets can get sick with tickborne diseases.
Dogs are very susceptible to tick bites and tickborne diseases. For that reason, it's important to use a tick preventive product on your dog and check your dog daily head to toe for ticks.
Cats are extremely sensitive to a variety of chemicals. Do not apply any tick prevention products to your cats without first asking your veterinarian.
Colorado locals and tourists, along with their furry companions, alike will be racing to the mountains during the weekends to get their hiking and outdoors fix.
However, with great weather comes a greater risk of injury for some. As the weather warms and people engage in more outdoor activities with their dogs, the chances of a dog injuring his or her leg via Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) tear dramatically increases.
Check out our blog for more information on CCL tears and how you can help your pup recover!
A CCL tear is one of the most common injuries among dogs in the summer due to increased outside activity. Learn more.

Meet Brie - One of our amazing ER & ICU RVT's 🎉❤️
I’ve been in the veterinary field since I was 15 years old and have worked my way from kennel worker to technician with hard work and determination. I’m so happy I get to work in the ER and ICU taking care of the sick and hurt babies and giving them all the love and TLC they may need. My heart is always fully with my patients and I enjoy giving extra snuggles to those who need it.
My little family consists of my dogs Nala and Nova, and my cats Sterling and Binx.
In my free time, I love to paint, kayak, game, go on hikes with my corgi, or just relax back with a good book.
A fun fact about myself is that I love doing conservation work and spent a few weeks in South Africa working with cheetahs!
Happy Memorial Day!
We are wishing everyone a fun and safe holiday!
Meet Hope 😍

As temperatures rise, it's crucial to always prioritize the safety of your pets by avoiding leaving them alone in parked cars. Even with the windows cracked, the temperature in cars still rises quickly.
If your pet is displaying any of these heat stroke symptoms, please bring your pet to the nearest ER:
Heavy panting
Rapid breathing
Excessive drooling
Dry gums
Bright red gums and tongue
Skin that's hot to the touch
Increased heart rate
Difficulty staying balanced
One of the most common things we see coming through our ER is pet's vomiting - Sometimes vomiting is "normal", it could be something that didn't sit well in their stomach just like people. However, if your pet is showing any of these signs, we recommend getting them into their primary vet or an emergency room.
Our emergency room is open 24/7 🧡

Today's Tip Tuesday comes from Nyx the Great Dane!
🐶 Don't eat your bed - even though you might think it's fun at the time, your human will need to bring you in for a foreign body surgery to remove it.
Nyx had to undergo emergency surgery after eating stuffing from his dog bed. Signs that your dog may have eaten something they shouldn't have include:
Drooling
Vomiting
Gagging or choking
Repeated lip-licking
Refusing to eat
Lethargy
If your dog is displaying any of these symptoms please give us a call!

Ice melt is a necessary product in the winter months. Keep these things in mind when choosing ice melt that is safe for your pets ⬇️ Most common ice melts contain sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium chloride—all of which are highly toxic to dogs if ingested. One of the most popular ice melts is composed of sodium chloride, also known as common rock salt. Unfortunately, rock salt is also one of the least pet-friendly ice melts. Pet-safe ice melts typically contain urea or magnesium chloride which are considered slightly safer but may still cause gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. These ingredients are also less effective at melting ice. Best rated pet safe ice melt brands: 1️⃣ Safe Paw 2️⃣ Natural Rapport {These can be found on Chewy's website} 🐾 Paw protection: Most ice melts will cause irritation—especially after repeat or prolonged exposure. Some of the more dangerous ice melts can also cause chemical burns. Topical issues occur as irritation on your pet’s skin, paw pads, eyes, mouth, and nose. Make sure your pet's paws are protected when walking over ice melt. Typically, most sidewalks are not using pet-safe products. Because of this, it’s best to rinse and wipe off your pet's feet after walking with them on sidewalks during the winter. Make sure you clean in between their toes and around their central paw pad. Ingestion: If you think your pet has ingested ice melt, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control at (888)-426-4435. Their toxicology experts can help determine the potential risk and if your pet needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately.
