MAT UPDATE!!!
This mat was placed in Hoosier’s stall on January 30th and as of last night has spent a total of 581 hours in her stall. That is equivalent to just over 24 days worth of continuous stall time. As you will see in the video, the tear on the edge is pealing a bit, but the small hole on the face of the mat has not grown. I purposely did not tape up these areas after I found the damage for experimental purposes. I did take a plastic broom and scrubbed the top of the mat with some soap to clean it up a bit. I only put down enough shavings to absorb pee and moisture.
When you’re showing, you should put a thin layer under to absorb any urine that will go around the mat and shavings on top of the mat to help keep your horses clean when they lay down.
Days of 10+ bags of shavings for a weekend show are gone if you give your horse the comfort they deserve with this mat!
IMPRESSED is an understatement! These mats are not indestructible but well worth the investment!
Week 2 Update
Week 2 update:
229 hours, approximately 9.5 hours
No new damage from Hoosier nor did the previous damage get any worse. I do have mice chewing on the bottom of the mat.
Sorry for the noise, Herbie is back to work and mad he can’t see his buddies.
Week three update next Monday!
Week 1: Suite Mats test with Hoosier - 128 hrs stalled in 1 week time which is equivalent to 5 solid days +8 hrs.
Some background info. Hoosier is a 16 hand Quarter Horse mare with a performance build. She wears aluminum wedge front shoes. Hoosier's stall is not heavily bedded. I put just enough bedding to absorb pee. Reference the first post picture for extent of bedding used.
Results after rinse off show a small tear about 1/2” long on the outside edge of the mat as well as a 1/2” x 1/2” V shaped tear. Both of these are in the high traffic areas of her mat. In my video I state I’m going to put gorilla tape over the tear, but I decided I’m going to leave it be to see if it gets worse.
Hoosier is testing out the durability of the mats. This is just a remnant piece. Excuse her disgustingness. She freshly rolled outside today and hadn’t been brushed yet. She does have front shoes on.
