Simple advice to K-9 units
Police dogs as well as personal protection dogs should be taught to bite the right arm as much as possible.
90% of population in the world are right handed, that means the suspect will have the weapon in his right arm. Training our dogs to bite the armed arm will give them a slight advantage but advantage that can save k9’s live.
All our protection dogs in LVK9T are trained to bite the armed arm as much as we can.
Sport dogs are different
IGP(IPO, Shutzhund) are trained to bite the left arm so the helper can test the dog with the right arm in which he holds the stick
KNPV which is the Holland protection sport and is where most of the imported k9s for law enforcement come are trained to bite the left arm so the helper can use the right arm to hit the dog with the long stick before he bites
PSA new sport getting very popular dogs are trained to bite left bicep just like KNPv
The only two sports that the dogs are trained to bite anywhere in the body is
French Ring and Mondioring
I may sound arrogant but think and will make sense even to the I trained eye, dogs learn through repetition and we as professionals can teach target really easy why not in every repetition we make them bite the armed arm.
