Burge Bird Services & Burge Bird Rescue has an opening for a part-time, flexible hours, bird caretaker position, plus we need some volunteers to help with a project. Grandview (south Kansas City) Missouri area.

Job opening: 4 to 6 days per week, 4 to 6 hours per day, feeding, watering, cleaning cages, sweeping and mopping floors, bird experience preferred. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour. Volunteers: we need several people who can help us organize the dozens of cages that have been donated recently, getting all the parts put together, finding the right dishes and perches to fit them, and washing them with our pressure washer. This will be outside in our back yard, as we have run out of room indoors! Next week Tuesday through Friday, September 3 through 6, is when we really need the help as we will hopefully be holding a big cage sale on Saturday, September 7. Meet Sq**rt: A Loyal Companion in Search of a Forever Home

If you missed Sq**rt in my post last week, here’s your chance to meet him again. Sq**rt is a 41-year-old Blue Fronted Amazon parrot with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He's currently looking for a loving forever home.

Sq**rt is a vocal bird with the typical loud call of an Amazon Parrot. When he misses you, he'll let you know by calling out until you respond. In the attached video, Sq**rt and I are playing our favorite whistling game. He starts with his loud call, but when I whistle back, he changes his tune to match mine. It’s one of the ways we bond, and it’s a clear sign of how much he wants to be near me.

In the video, you’ll also see Sq**rt pacing at the corner of his cage, a clear sign that he’s eager to come with me. When Sq**rt chooses you, he’s incredibly loyal and offers companionship like no other. He’ll call for you, follow you around the house, and might even climb up on the couch for a snuggle. This deep bond is one of the things I love most about Sq**rt.

However, potential adopters should know that Sq**rt’s loud calls can be overwhelming at times, and he may become protective, challenging anyone who comes too close to his chosen person. Sq**rt is still very much a wild bird, and you’ll need patience to learn his unique language and become a part of his flock.

Help Lani find her forever home!

Lani is a Goffin Cockatoo that came to us after her owner had a stroke. She has lots of s***k and will keep anyone entertained for hours! She prefers men and will bond with the man of the household. She would also be fine with a single woman. Lani is ok with larger birds, but has been known to go after ones smaller than her. She's not aggressive towards people at all though and will make someone a great best friend! She has lots of friends at our facility in Lenexa, but she really needs to find her forever home and person.

We want to give a huge thanks to ZuPreem for sending over an assortment of food for the birds at our facility! We encourage everyone to feed their birds pellets instead of seeds in order to provide the nutrition they need. Hi, I'm Biscuit! I'm a 3 year old Pineapple Green Cheek Conure. I can be a little bit fiesty when I'm in my cage, but once you get me out I'm a good little bird! I'm currently staying at our Lenexa facility while I wait for someone to take me home. You can meet me by appointment or on most Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1pm-4pm.
