At 17 weeks old and weighing in at a whopping 55 pounds already, the handsome Sultan definitely lives up to his name and has some big paws to fill. 👑🐶

It was a busy day of public exposure for the baby wyvern Abraxos, aka Brax.
After coming home to a VERY big mess in the kennel, a thorough bath, and some observation; We are very grateful for the amazing vets and techs at Riverview Animal Clinic for getting Brax in immediately for a suspected blockage.
Luckily, little Brax does not have a blockage, but does have some GI inflammation. With some medication and antinausea he is happy and relaxed back at home. We are happy to report that the staff at Riverview said he did absolutely amazing and was such a gentleman for them during their work up and was more than happy to steal some snuggles from them while they worked.
The one, the only, the woolly mammoth, BearBear 🐻
Let’s talk about comfort grooms!
This is BearBear the 275+ pound Newfoundland. Bear is a goofy boy, who needs some special attention during grooming. He doesn’t like the clippers, the scissors, having his feet or his belly touched. Due to his size, you need a team of people to help you lift or a possibly a forklift to get him in the truck. Which makes consistent scheduling difficult.
It had been quite some time since Bear had been groomed, and with him being finicky about the process, today wasn’t about making him look pretty, it’s about comfort. We do everything in our power not to shave double coated breeds, as it can very severely damage the coat and cause a whole slew of skin problems down the road and the potential for the coat to no longer shed and become compacted. Which is very uncomfortable. Today it just couldn’t be avoided, the benefit outweighed the risk, and Bear got a much needed coat reset.
Due to his weight, and the safety concern of a bite from a dog his size it can make grooming difficult and dangerous for both him and I. It is hard for him to stand for long periods of time, and he can get quite cranky when asked for too much. He also is too big for my hydraulic table, so we got to spend the day down on his level, grooming to his comfort. Luckily, BearBear was more than cooperative today to get all of the matting off and I’d say it must have felt pretty good! He still was a stickler for not having his feet touched, so he is going home with some fuzzy grinchy toes rather than being forced through the foot trimming and ruining the bond and trust that we have established together.
I’ll be the first to tell you, the health and safety of your dog is more important to me than the way they look when they walk out the door.
I might be a little biased, but I still think this giant hunk of love is pretty cute even with his socks and grinchy toes

It’s not very often I get free reign on poodle styles on such a well behaved and beautiful dog.
Miss Mia was a CHAMPION today for her haircut and was patient enough to let me play with her style. It certainly makes it easier when she is as cute as she is!
Brax is absolutely loving being a shop dog now that he's off quarantine. Brax came to us from the Idaho Animal Rescue Network for us to foster and get some manners instilled in him. When we first got him he was a tad aggressive towards other dogs, and now with some positive reinforcement he has become quite the shop dog at the groom shop. He will continue our basic obedience program while we get him exposed to as much as possible. He's such a sweet boy.
Big before and after for Mr Finn, along with handsome R***r and the sweet Maisey.

It’s the time of year for the dreaded BEGGARS LICE🥴
This handsome man took a small detour on his walk this morning with mom and found himself a bush or 10 of beggars lice, otherwise known as cockleburrs. While I’m sure he had a great time sniffing out the deer, the aftermath wasn’t ideal.
Luckily mom gave me a call and we were able to make him a same day emergency appointment to get him cleaned up and comfortable again.
After brushing out probably 500+ burrs from his coat he got a bath and a tidy trim and is feeling good as new!

We love a good before and after.

A quality hunting retriever is an absolute must. Especially on a Columbia River Diver Duck hunt. Reaper owned by Co-Owners of HCWD Parker & Ashlee had his work cut out for him today. 28 birds on the icy river is no easy task but we train top Tier dogs for this reason.
