Have a happy and safe 4th!

06/27/2024

For over a year now, our shelter has consistently been at capacity, and the situation isn't improving. Just this past Wednesday alone, 42 stray animals were brought in to LFACC. 42 in ONE DAY!

With the July 4th holiday around the corner, we anticipate even more animals will end up at our doors. But you can prevent that from happening by reading the graphic below and following these tips to keep your animals safe during the upcoming festivities.

If your animal does go missing, please contact our Animal Services Dept immediately at (859) 255-9033 ext. 233 to file a report. Other helpful steps include updating your animals microchip information, putting up lost pet flyers in the community, and posting to the Lost and Found Pets of Lexington, KY page.

High winds can do more than mess up your hair. Central Kentucky is currently under a High Wind Warning, so keep your pets safe!

Double-check that your fence and gates are secure before letting your animal outside. If you are going for a walk, ensure your pet is wearing proper ID tags and that you have a good grip on the leash as blowing items could spook them and make them bolt. Avoid leaving animals outside unattended, if possible.

If you have lost or found a pet, please contact our team at 859-255-9033!

We’ve been very busy this week and want to make sure to remind everyone how important it is to keep identification on your pet!

Below are just a few dogs in our care still hoping to be reunited with their owner. None of these dogs had tags or microchip information to help get them home. Lost dogs are held for a minimum of 5 days while we search for an owner.

LFACC is open for animal reclaim Monday-Saturday from 12pm-6pm. We are located at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike in Building A. If you are missing a pet, please come to our facility to personally search for your animal. You can also visit our website at LFACC.org to view all stray animals currently in our care.

Our Animal Services department can be reached at 859-255-9033 x 233 for lost/found pet inquiries. We offer microchipping services for only $25+tax during normal business hours!

The animals pictured will be transferred to our partner organization, Lexington Humane Society, to be placed available for adoption if they are not reclaimed. If you would like to be notified when a particular animal becomes available, please call their First Contact team at 859-233-0044 x 236.

πŸŽ†FOURTH OF JULY PET SAFETYπŸŽ†
🧨Tips to keep your pet safe and secure during fireworks this year.🧨

1️⃣ Make sure your pet has up-to-date and visible ID tags. πŸ”– We also recommend that your pet be microchipped.
2️⃣ Keep your pets inside 🏑
Keep your pets inside in a secure room or crate during Fourth of July celebrations.
3️⃣ Distract 🎢🎧
Play soft music in your pet's secure room to muffle the sounds of fireworks and other loud noises.
4️⃣ Exercise πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί
Take your dog on a walk before fireworks to help release extra energy.
5️⃣ Avoid πŸ›‘
Make sure your pet does not have access to fireworks, sparklers, glowsticks and charcoal. These items are toxic to your pets.
6️⃣ Comfort πŸ€—
Items such like treats, blankets or a Thundershirt can help ease your pet's anxiety during fireworks.
7️⃣ Know what to do when your pet gets loose
β€’ Contact your local animal control office and your microchip company
β€’ Post on your personal media
β€’ Post to local lost and found groups
β€’ Post to Next Door, Ring, and other Neighborhood apps.

We hope everyone has a safe and Happy 4th of July!

This afternoon we were called by a Good Samaritan who caught a loose dog that had been running in traffic. Upon arrival, our officer scanned the dog for a microchip and was able to call his owner to pick him up. Ollie & his owner were very lucky, and thanks to his current microchip he was quickly returned without stepping foot in the shelter!

Expect the unexpected β€” please remember to keep ID tags and microchip information up-to-date. Not only does this drastically increase the chances of your pet being returned home, but it could also save you from having to pay the required impound fees if they were to be turned in. We typically check for tags and scan for a microchip before entering an animal into our care!

We offer microchipping services which includes registration for only $25+tax Monday - Saturday from 12pm - 6pm. No appointment is required!

If your pet is already microchipped but you're not sure if the contact information is current, give our team a call at 859-255-9033 x 233 and we'd be happy to walk you through how to update.

Next week is the Fourth of July holiday which is our busiest intake week of the year. Making sure your pet has proper identification is SO IMPORTANT! Again, expect the unexpected. Those who lose their pet never think they will lose their pet. Plan ahead to keep your pet safe!
