The Gordon Setter was developed in Scotland in the 17th century from a mix of Irish and English setters. The Gordon gets its name from Alexander Gordon, the Duke of Gordon, Scotland, who refined the breed in the early 1800s. The Gordon Setter tends to be somewhat larger and closer working than many contemporary versatile breeds, and therefore makes a particularly good choice for the foot hunter. Gordon Setters are affectionate, fiercely loyal, intelligent, and make excellent family companions.

Currently NAVHDA recognizes 30 different breeds of pointing dogs. While each breed differs somewhat with respect to their physical characteristics, they all possess the versatility required to locate, point, and retrieve upland game, find and retrieve wounded waterfowl, and serve as well-mannered companions.

We have puppies!!!

Recently we took in 4 puppies in Ohio! Two have been placed! There are two female pups that are 13 weeks old available for adoption! They are rescues with no papers! The pups are more of a field trial build and size!
Anyone interested must have a fenced yard and be able to fill out an application, have a home check and be approved by Midwest Gordon Setter Rescue!

UPDATE - In a foster-to-adopt home

Please consider helping this Gordon Setter.
The GSCA National Rescue Committee has been searching, without success, for a foster home for this dog. He is a 6 year old male Gordon Setter in SW Utah. Even though he has previously lived outside, he is making progress on house manners. He does have special needs: confidence-building and a patient foster family to work with him. If you live within driving distance to his location (UT, NV, AZ, NM, CO, ID) please help us help him to a better life than he has had previously. He gets along with other dogs and really wants human companionship. He is currently boarded during weekdays because his owner's schedule now would require him to be home alone.

Meet Jurni!

Jurni is a two year old female Gordon Setter! She loves to run and have fun in the yard but has wonderful manners in the house! Jurni is a giant love bug and enjoys cuddles on the couch! She is a smaller field trial size! Jurni gets along well with other dogs also. She is recovering from her recent spay with her foster mom in Ohio! Please consider Jurni as your next family member!
