A Rushcreek story to warm your heart in the middle of this cold winter!
Last week I got an email from Amy Srock. She had a horse that had a Rushcreek brand and of course, a number, but did not have papers, nor a history on the horse.
The mare is Rushcreek Secret foaled in 1985. She is by Zburaff and out of RC Loni. She as sold off the ranch in 1987.
Here is the story told by Amy:
Thank you so much for the info. And more-so thank you for breeding such amazing horses. Without Rushcreek, I would never have found Secret.
About 12 years ago (I was 15 years old), we had an accident with one of the horses and he had to be put down. A friend of my family heard what had happened and decided she wanted to help. I will never forget the phone call. She told me that she had recently gone to Texas to purchase a Morgan stud and Secret had been thrown in as a package deal. She had no use for Secret, so she offered her to me, if I liked her.
The day I went to her farm changed my world. Secret immediately perked up when I walked in. She was skin and bones and had a halter grown into her face at some point. Although she was healed, it left a nasty scar. I had to run back out to my dad's truck after I looked at her, and there was a window in her stall that looked out into the yard. As soon as I left, she went to the window and neighed at me until I came back. There was an immediate bond and I truly believe that this horse was meant to be with me. I walked her home that day and I've loved her ever since. She has been there for me through a lot of rough times. I knew no matter what happened, Secret was always there offering a shoulder to cry on, and a soft nose on my cheek if needed. I couldn't imagine going through the last 12 years without her.
I retired Secret about two years ago. Although still she's in fantastic shape...I just can't bring myself to even take the chance of hurting her. We still go for walks and she visits an elderly couple with me in the summer months. There are even a couple handicapped children that visit her. I've never been into the fancy showing...I enjoy being on a trail in the middle of nowhere. Just me and my horse...the closest I can get to heaven on earth.
My parents and sister have also become very attached to her. She will be part of the family for the rest of her golden years.
I thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for doing what you do, and making it possible for a horse to make such an impact on a little girls life. My life. She is truly a treasure.
