As of August 1, 2024 the requirements for dogs traveling back into the United States will be changing dramatically. It will be very important to know of these changes so you do not have problems returning home from Canada.

In short, your dog will need to not only have microchips in place but rabies vaccines given prior to this will not be recognized. Only rabies vaccines given at the time of the microchip implantation or after will be officially recognized by the USDA. If a rabies vaccine is needed a 28 day waiting period will be required prior to travel. An official USDA rabies certificate will need to be issued with an additional cost for this procedure.

Owners will also need to have a form filled out from the CDC that will need to be presented at the border crossing upon return to the United States.

We are including below a link with further information.
Please feel free to contact us for more information or any appointment requests for obtaining the USDA Rabies Certificate.

Horses can acclimate to hot and humid weather conditions; however, air temperature and relative humidity can affect your horse’s ability to cool themselves.

It is recommended to avoid (or use caution when) riding or exercising a horse when the combined air temperature (in Fahrenheit) and relative humidity (%) surpass 150. For example, if the temperature is predicted to be 92 F with 69% relative humidity, the combination of the two is 161.

When the air temperature + relative humidity is less than 130, horses are very effective at cooling themselves. Between 130 and 150, a horse’s ability to cool themselves is decreased. When the combination is greater than 150, a horse’s ability to cool themselves is greatly reduced, and if the combination is greater than 180, conditions could become fatal if the horse is stressed.

For most of my life I lived in dogless ignorance and would have mocked sentiments about intense cross-species friendships. How wrong I was.

It is likely that, at some point, you were told to not allow a hot, sweaty horse to drink cold water because it could lead to colic, founder or tie up.

This is a myth, and a dangerous one to boot because it could lead to dehydration and very serious (and real) consequences. A sweaty, hardworking horse needs to be rehydrated without delay (i.d. don’t wait for the horse to cool down first). The key, however, is to know how much water to allow at one time — because of the equine stomach’s relatively small capacity, offer small amounts of water every 20 minutes until the horse drinks his fill rather than letting the animal drink it all at once.

Remember that water is the most vital nutrient for a horse. A horse’s daily water requirements are influenced by many factors, but the average idle 1,100-pound horse in a cool environment will drink 6 to 10 gallons of water per day. That amount may easily double or triple in a hot environment! Therefore, it goes without saying that providing cool, clean water to your horses at all times is of paramount importance.

We are all very saddened to hear about Luna's death. Our heartfelt condolences to her handler, Officer Haller, and all in the Duluth Police department.

Police said in a Facebook post that the suspect opened fire when officers deployed Luna in an attempt to apprehend him.

Glad this officer is doing well.

Glad this officer is doing well.

Update from Bravos handler:
Bravo is doing very good. He was discharged from the UofM today at 1500 hours. He was shot in the throat directly on his flat collar and it exited out his right shoulder. There’s a tear on his trachea, spinal fracture, and soft tissue wounds in his shoulder. They doctors at the UofM decided not to do surgery in fear that intubation would tear his throat further. His vitals are good and he was able to eat some food and get outside on his own. He will be out of duty for some time, it's hard to say now if he will return to work but things are looking good. Thank you to all my brothers and sisters for reaching out. The last 24 hours have been a blur and we are very thankful to have this warrior still with us. The good guys always win.

Keep in mind this is still a critical incident which is under investigation, and cannot be talked about at this time. So please respect that when speaking to all of the officers involved.
