An Open Letter from Dr. Ganter to Our Valued Clients and Friends,
After over 30 years of practicing veterinary medicine, and 25 fulfilling years of growing Village Veterinary Clinic alongside my husband, Dr. Verne Thacker, it is with a mixture of both excitement and sadness that I announce my retirement, effective December 2024. This decision comes a bit earlier than many might expect, but due to some unforeseen health concerns within our family, Verne and I feel it’s time to step back, enjoy more time together, and embrace new adventures.
When we first took ownership of Village Vet in 1999, it was a modest clinic with big dreams. Since then, we’ve worked together to build it into the thriving multi-doctor practice it is today, caring for pets large and small. In 2007 we were able to open the doors to our new building to continue providing the highest standard of compassionate care to more members of our community.
Throughout the years, the relationships we’ve built with you - our clients, friends, and neighbors, have been the most meaningful part of our journey. You’ve allowed us the honor of caring for your pets and we have always appreciated the value of that trust. It has truly been a privilege to serve the Lompoc community, not only through veterinary medicine but also by contributing to youth agriculture, sports, and music programs, and local animal welfare groups.
Though we are stepping away from the clinic, I’m comforted knowing that Village Veterinary Clinic will continue to thrive under the capable leadership of Dr. Julie Deter, who has been by my side for over 15 years. Julie’s exceptional skills and her deep commitment to both quality medicine and our community make her the ideal person to take over as Medical Director of VVC. I have every confidence that she will continue to uphold the values and standard of care that have been the foundation of our practice.
It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially when a place and its people have meant so much to me. I will miss seeing your faces and caring for your pets, but I leave with countless memories and a full heart, knowing that this practice is in the best hands.
Thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and your friendship over the years. Verne and I are excited about what’s next for us, but we will always carry the Village Vet community close to our hearts.
With deepest gratitude,
Connie Ganter, DVM
