We’ve gotten several calls from kind community members about donations toward Mousy, an orange male stray cat whose story has been shared on local pet-centric social media groups. There was some confusion with updates on social media so we wanted to let everyone know that Dr. Scherr was able to perform surgery today and he is recovering well! Private donations and local organizations like have covered his initial care before surgery, and all follow up care is under the direction of so any further donations must be made through SBCAS. We are happy to assist anyone who would like help donating our local shelter or Mousy’s case specifically - please call, text, or email us for more information! *Story shared with permission*

🚨 South Vandenberg Village is currently under mandatory evacuation orders, including Providence Landing and lower Vandenberg Village, due to a vegetation fire off of Santa Lucia Canyon Road. Pet owners needing to drop off their pets are encouraged to contact SB County Animal Services at (805)737-7755. At this time officials are not recommending that we board evacuees in case the orders are expanded to our building area or we lose power. Our clients can always contact us if they need medical assistance for their pets and we will do our best to help. Stay safe and thank you to all of our first responders!

**Edit: We are having intermittent phone/internet issues due to the fire but are trying our best to be available to our clients - thank you for your patience!

An Open Letter from Dr. Ganter to Our Valued Clients and Friends,

After over 30 years of practicing veterinary medicine, and 25 fulfilling years of growing Village Veterinary Clinic alongside my husband, Dr. Verne Thacker, it is with a mixture of both excitement and sadness that I announce my retirement, effective December 2024. This decision comes a bit earlier than many might expect, but due to some unforeseen health concerns within our family, Verne and I feel it’s time to step back, enjoy more time together, and embrace new adventures.

When we first took ownership of Village Vet in 1999, it was a modest clinic with big dreams. Since then, we’ve worked together to build it into the thriving multi-doctor practice it is today, caring for pets large and small. In 2007 we were able to open the doors to our new building to continue providing the highest standard of compassionate care to more members of our community.

Throughout the years, the relationships we’ve built with you - our clients, friends, and neighbors, have been the most meaningful part of our journey. You’ve allowed us the honor of caring for your pets and we have always appreciated the value of that trust. It has truly been a privilege to serve the Lompoc community, not only through veterinary medicine but also by contributing to youth agriculture, sports, and music programs, and local animal welfare groups.

Though we are stepping away from the clinic, I’m comforted knowing that Village Veterinary Clinic will continue to thrive under the capable leadership of Dr. Julie Deter, who has been by my side for over 15 years. Julie’s exceptional skills and her deep commitment to both quality medicine and our community make her the ideal person to take over as Medical Director of VVC. I have every confidence that she will continue to uphold the values and standard of care that have been the foundation of our practice.

It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially when a place and its people have meant so much to me. I will miss seeing your faces and caring for your pets, but I leave with countless memories and a full heart, knowing that this practice is in the best hands.

Thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and your friendship over the years. Verne and I are excited about what’s next for us, but we will always carry the Village Vet community close to our hearts.

With deepest gratitude,

Connie Ganter, DVM

Today we celebrate 25 years of Village Vet with Dr. Ganter and Dr. Thacker! What started with one employee in 1999 has grown into the amazing extended VVC family we have today, and we are so grateful for the laughter and meaningful memories over the years – including annual Pippa weigh-ins, charity mud runs, infamous holiday ornament exchanges, slip ‘n’ slide parties, and so much more. We also hold close to the memory of Kelly Simmons, who became family to so many of us and will always be in our hearts. Thank you to the staff, families, and pets who have been part of the last 25 years – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Check out these gems from the archives and see how many familiar faces you recognize still in VVC scrubs today! Cheers to the next 25 years 💚
