Remi-
Bought from a kill pen in Louisiana by Sabina Gilbert a few years ago.

He belonged there in terms of physical health
He didn’t serve a purpose for anyone responsible for him anymore.

New owner, Jessica Gressett takes over remi and starts putting money and training into him with me!

Thanks to Jim Quick, Dr. Dale Bowers and the support and trust of Jessica we were able to be very successful in our first working equitation clinic last month!

Every horse has a purpose with proper direction and professional decisions made on their behalf!

"Flipping" OTTBs, the good, and the not so great.

First thing first----I/you/we/they absolutely have every right to make as big a profit as possible on any horse that I/you/we/they have bought. If I buy a horse this morning for $500, and put a price on it this afternoon of $25,000, that is my perogative, and if someone does not like it, don't pay it.

So what I will now say does not apply to price, but to training procedures---

Many horses that come off the race tracks are in no way ready to be ridden by riders who are not experienced with dealing with potentially nervous behavior from a horse whose prior life may have created a "well" of anxiety.

Not every race horse is "anxious" when it first comes off the track, but I have been dealing with OTTBs for nearly 60 years---six decades---and in my experience, more are worried and reactive than not, At first, at least. Nothing that usually can't be changed, but at first.

Now, here is where it can get tricky. And it comes directly back to that saying that "time is money."

It is hard hard hard to sell a reactive horse, because the average horse shopper is not a seasoned veteran who can turn a worried horse into a calm horse. The average horse shopper usually needs a horse that isn't going to intimidate her/him, and if the OTTB is also somewhat intimidated, intimidated and intimidated do not add up to relaxed. Think about that.

So now the seller is faced with a dilemma. "Do I take as long as it takes to truly "defuse" this race track induced residual anxiety, or do I use strategies to "mask" the underlying worry to create a horse that "behaves" well enough to get sold, even if that masking process later comes undone?"

And some trainers do it right, and some trainers don't.

So know who you are dealing with before you sign the check----

This is genius!! Developing a horse isn’t drilling in the ring work, it is literally teaching an athletes body to work with is neurological system to become the best performer it can be. You will get the most mentally and physically out of your athlete when the relaxation is there. So many soundness issues stem from poor development of an athletes body. The horses don’t have to be jumping big jumps to be put into a job that is taxing on their body and how under developed it truly is due to a lack of the rider/trainer understanding of its needs.
This process takes time, patience, correct riding and intuition of the specific horse you are working with and it’s bodies needs.

Understand why and how you should activate a greater range of muscles in your horse’s body.

The seconds, minutes, hours,days ,years that it takes to develop a good performance horse..... the heart breaks, tears, anxiety, self doubt, set backs that come in those
Moments in time. The validation is in the horse. The muscle,movement , mental capabilities all start to appear slowly..... the bond and understanding between horse and rider that only those two can appreciate what has been put in...... it is truly a gift to ride you miss aspen... you have brought me along your journey thus far and I am honored to have had the ride🙏

Well I posted a week ago how I hoped to keep this mare with me for awhile....

Soft does not mean passive riding
Soft is soft angles as you are riding effectively
Clear aids with distinct softening rewards teaches the simple minded horse who understand black and White better then the grey area.
For the love teach your horse to be a partner. Be a strong rider with soft rewards.
Don’t confuse passive riding as soft riding. Don’t be afraid to go backwards a few steps to gain miles in the long run!!
