Fox Equine Rescue & Rehabilitation

Fox Equine Rescue & Rehabilitation We are a horse rescue and rehabilitation facility located in Los Gatos, CA. We also offer English, Western, and Dressage lessons and leasing.
(16)

We take in horses who are abused, neglected, mistreated, or just generally unwanted for many reasons. We bring them back to optimal health (be it through quality food and supplements, training, starting, fixing behavioral issues, etc) and lease/sponsor or adopt out each horse to the right forever home. At this time we are unable to take in any horses that are not ride-able or over age 20, but we will gladly assist in placing any horse. Contact us for more info and trainer availability.

📝Note to self: Starting now… do more of what makes you happy.

There is something I need to tell you.

Yes, you, I am talking to you. DO NOT TUNE ME OUT. You need to hear this.

IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN. If you had a hard day. If your life is hard right now. Remember. YOU ARE IMPORTANT.

Hang on here, let me explain. If you are anything like me, here is where I would scroll on, give me 1 minute...

You are not just a little important but super important.

I don't even have to know you personally to know this is a fact.

You may not feel like it right now, but you are a part of a grand plan.

God, The Universe whatever you like to call our Creator, is up to something BIG. And you are a part of it.

What makes you happy matters.

It matters because YOU matter.

This is an embarrassing story, but I will share it anyway.

A few years ago I invested to take my horses to a clinic in South Carolina to work with Frederic Pignon and Magali Delgado (the original creators of Cavalia).

Whenever they are in the U.S. having a clinic, I scrape up all my pennies and go if I can. I don't know much about liberty work but I am always changed in some way at a deep level.

So, it was my turn in the round pen with my horse Raven, I had worked with Frederic before so they put me first.😨

Fred always starts out a session by having you work with your horse, and he watches you to see where you need help, and how you relate & connect to your horse.

I am going along doing my thing, with this big crowd watching, (at the time I didn't know any liberty so I don't even know what the heck I was doing lol).

But he stops me & yells out to me with French accent ... "Stop, stop, stop. Jen, Jen, you are not happy." 😨

"You are not smiling and happy with your horse".

Huh? What? I am not what?

Oh crap. He's right. I am all serious and not happy. I am not connecting I am just freaking out.

Not looking at my horse but it was all about me and my nerves.

And immediately the tears came. (yep, embarrassing- right in front of God, Fred and everyone)

I had worked so hard to get there. I had stressed, I had strategized, I had done all the things.

I got my beautiful mare to get help from one of the greatest trainers in the world to help "her"
(it's always the horse that needs help right? Not the owner. Right? Righhhhhht.)

And in all my stress, all my anxiousness of being in front of the crowd. I FORGOT of all things, the most important thing!!

To be happy. Just to be me. And be with my horse. And let her be her!

Since that day, I have tried to let this be burned in my mind when I am with the horses and just in general.

I have for as long as I can remember, put on a brave face and a smile regardless of the situation.

Whether I felt it or not, but NOW to be genuine. To be authentic. It has to be real.

And I will tell you the 100% truth it changes everything with my horses.💯

Think about it.🤔

Aren't you happiest when you are with someone who is happy to be with you?

Someone who values you, and your feelings are important? Someone who truly sees you?

This brings me back to the reason for my message to you today. To remind you of your importance, and the importance of your happiness and WHY it is even important to remember you are important!

💌When you are happy, you spread the joy and make others happy.

💌You can not give what you do not have. As horse girls, the girls who get to play with these amazing animals, we can be a spark to spread the joy in the crazy dang world.

💌But it starts with each one of us. To be at our best selves, so we can bring out the best in our horses, and our little influence on the world.

It starts with you.

You are important. Your passion is important. Your happiness is important. And heck yes, your horse is important.

And the more they know, the more trained they are, the more loved they are, the safer they are in this world. It is the most valuable gift we can give them.

This is triggering and disgusting but a horse in some places can be dog food, but treated with importance, but valued, loved, and allowed to be who they are, they are a best friend, spiritual messenger, and invaluable teacher.

☀And for you to shine. And for me to shine, we have to treat ourselves with importance too.

🙏🏼So please, sweet friend, follow your bliss, be happy and go work with or ride your horse this season.

Make it a season you will never forget. You'll both be better for it.

💕Love you so much,
Jenny & Ryan

We find these all the time under water troughs

This photo really resonated with me when I saw it on my feed.
Not only for the sentiments of the text, but for the photo used.

I believe it is lost on the general populace just HOW the equine body functions in motion, and why I have such a strong stance against head setting mechanisms or methods.

And it is precisely what this photo captures:
• The shoulders/thoracic sling steer the horse.
• The head/neck functions as a counter lever or balancing rod, much like that of a cheetahs tail.

When you interfere with this with head setting aids, you inhibit the horses innate balancing mechanism.
It actively disables the thoracic sling and creates compensation that shows up through the neck and jaw. Putting the horse further on the forehand.
Remember, if your horse cannot lift through the chest, he will ALWAYS be on the forehand, no matter where his head is.

Thoracic sling strength takes time. It cannot be expedited with quick tricks.

Only when the horse is developed through the thoracic sling and has adequate vertical balance may the head and neck assume functioning SEPARATE from the shoulders as the balancing rod of the body.

MY LITTLE FARM ❤
“Farm work doesn’t make you stronger. It doesn’t make you anything. It reveals you.
There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive. The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.
There are more uses for twine than you can possibly imagine. You can tie up a hole in a slow feeder, fashion a tail strap for a horse’s blanket, mend a broken fence and use it as a belt.
“Well that certainly didn’t go as planned,” is one thing you’ll say quite a bit.
Control is a mere illusion. The thought that you have any, at any given time, is utterly false.
Sometimes sleep is a luxury. So are lunch and dinner. And brushing your hair.
If you’ve never felt your obliques contract, then you’ve never tried stopping an overly full wheelbarrow of horse manure from tipping over sideways. Trust me, you’ll find muscles that you never knew existed on the human skeleton to prevent this from happening.
When one of the animals is ill, you’ll go to heroic lengths to minimize their discomfort.
Their needs come first. In summer heat and coldest winter days. Clean water, clean bed, and plenty of feed. Before you have your first meal, they all eat.
When you lose one of them, even though you know that day is inevitable, you still feel sadness, angst and emotional pain from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. And it’s a heaviness that lingers even though you must regroup and press on.
You’ll cry a lot. But you’ll never live more fully. You’ll remain present no matter what because you must. There is no other option.
You’ll ask for so many miracles and hold out hope until the very last.
You will, at least once, face-plant in the manure pile. You’ll find yourself saying things like, “we have maybe twenty minutes of daylight left to git ‘er done” whilst gazing up at a nonspecific place in the sky.
You’ll become weirdly obsessive about the weather.
You’ll go out in public wearing filthy clothes and smelling of dirt, sweat and p**p. People will look at you sideways and krinkle their noses but you won’t care.
Your entire day can derail within ten seconds of the rising sun.
You can wash your coveralls. They won’t look any cleaner, but they will smell much nicer.
Farm work is difficult in its simplicity.
You’ll always notice just how beautiful sunrises and sunsets really are.
Should you ever have the opportunity to work on a farm, take the chance! You will never do anything more satisfying in your entire life.”

I hope you're tough
Thick skinned and strong willed
Grow a backbone, stay firm in your beliefs
And stick to your guns

I hope you're tender
Willing to bend when the cold wind blows
Soft and gentle, able to see their side
Full of awe and wonder for the world around you

I hope you're full of grit
Determined to do your best
Never letting "quit" and "can't" enter your vocabulary

I hope you understand that the truth doesn't always match "your truth"
And that everyone's perspective is different from where they stand

I hope you guard your heart, and trust wisely
Love fully, and with integrity
I hope you make mistakes, and learn from them

Most of all, I hope you find peace and happiness

❤️Richelle

It's Giving Season! Can you help with a small donation? Every penny counts.
https://givebutter.com/3T23sA

Four reasons to begin a tradition of giving:

1. Giving makes you feel happy. Your brain's pleasure circuits are stimulated by acts of charity and release "good feeling" chemicals such as endorphins, which give you a sense of euphoria, and oxytocin, which promotes tranquility and inner peace.

2. Giving is good for your health. Stress is the catalyst for many known health issues. Giving has been proven to decrease blood pressure and reduce stress. This reduction promotes longer life and better health.

3. Giving promotes social connection. Studies show that when you give to others, your generosity is often continued down the line to someone else, or returned to you. This strengthens our ties to each other.

4. Giving is contagious. When one person gives, it inspires others to do the same.
