🇵🇹Sons of the Wind’s Oxidado do Castanheiro, a son of Carriço out of Dona Pérola, has achieved remarkable success in Brazil by qualifying for the Longines FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championships! These Championships will bring together the best of the new generation of horses in the sport in Ermelo, Netherlands, from September 4 to 8.

We talked to Nikki, who purchased Obrigado from Sons of the Wind, and we are thrilled by their amazing accomplishments and teamwork! Read what Nikki had to say:
Obrigado was bred by Sons of the Wind and is officially 6 years old this month (July) and has been such a dream. He is always game for anything I want to try, from popping over little logs to hacking out alone through the woods (he REALLY wants to go play with the cows next door). Whether he’s alone or in company, he is often the “reassuring” one. Since I work full-time, he remains consistent regardless of whether I ride daily or give him time off. At home or off property, it doesn’t matter. At our last show, I had a stomach virus, and he took care of me all weekend. He’s finishing a growth spurt but has really grown into himself and always gets lots of attention.
This past weekend, we qualified for the USDF - USLA All Breed Award for First Level (AA) 😁. Someone was inquiring about him, and we pointed them to Sons of the Wind. They loved both how nicely put together he is and his attitude. Of course, Buckskin is their favorite color, but a good horse is a good horse, and there is no way I’m parting with Obrigado.
Whenever we go anywhere, we get a lot of “oh he’s gorgeous!” and “wow” comments, as well as remarks about “how great his mind is.” It makes us proud to represent Sons of the Wind and the Lusitano breed as a whole.

🤍”I was referred to Vitor Silva by friends when I began my search for a second horse in early 2021. I contacted Vitor, and let him know what I was looking for and my level of riding experience—I was very lucky as Vitor was already planning to bring in a horse from Brazil in a short time frame that met my needs. My husband and I flew up to Massachusetts to meet Macarrao in early May, soon after the 5 year old made the trip up the East Coast following his quarantine, and rode him several times over 3 or 4 days.”
“Macarrao is a great horse for me. He’s bombproof (a huge manure container was dropped behind us on a ride outside the other day and he didn’t flinch), charismatic, confident and curious about his environment, and, as you would expect from a well bred Lusitano, very talented. We ride him everywhere on the property where we board—in the indoor arena, in the outdoor arenas and on trails, which he loves. I look forward to many years of progressing in my riding with him and keeping him healthy and happy.”

Nikita was purchased 2 years ago and this is what Angela has to say about her wonderful horse.
“Nikita is living her best life in Colorado. The last two years with Nikita have been incredible; she has a light and lovely personality and everyone who meets her falls in love with her. She is playful, intelligent, beautiful, curious, and athletic. She has made me a better horsewoman and rider in every aspect. We travel frequently to clinics and to our trainer – she is a confident and easy traveler and makes fast friends at every new destination. We have done some dressage ride-a-tests and, while Nikita is more than ready now, I will be ready to start showing next season. Nikita enjoys and demonstrates acumen when we introduce obstacles, poles, and patterns – so I am dabbling a little in working equitation, something that I think will highlight her athleticism, curiosity, and bravery. I love this mare and could not imagine my life without her!”

“I bought Portus a little over a year ago from SOTW and love him. His is turning 6 on July 4th and truly is Captain America. He is super protective (will walk between me and the other horses when bringing them in from the field), loves to please and is super willing to learn. As an adult amateur with a demanding job, I especially appreciate him as he is so much fun to ride! He is the same horse if he is ridden several days in a row or had several days off. I am so grateful as my barn time is my “fun time” and it is so nice to not be worried or stressed as to what horse I am going to get when I have had a long day or week at work.
We have a big summer planned with a clinic from a nationally recognized clinician and our first recognized show in August.
Maggie and Vitor were terrific to work with on the sale, PPE and transport to Missouri.

🤍MR PASTOR DO VOUGA🤍 During our time in Brazil this past week, we attended the exclusive PSL auction, hosted by Coudelaria Rocas do Vouga where we acquired this stunning 2015 gelding “Mr. Pastor Du Vouga”. The following day he went on to win 2nd place at the CDI. Furthermore, he already has wonderful accomplishments including, Brazilian runner-up in young horses 5 years old, and 3rd 3rd place in young horses 7 years old in 2023. He will be imported immediately and offered for sale during our 2023/2024 Wellington season.

Principe is the highest scoring Lusitano in the last 20 years with 82 points at his approval. The bay is out of Lagoa CLB (Continente IGS). The black is out of Jocasta do Drosa (Quixote MVL).We have a unique partnership with a premier breeding facility in South America. Both colts were born there and will stay there to compete in the breed shows and eventually be started under saddle.
