Pets need dental maintenance and care, just like humans! 🦷 Over time, cleanings can be necessary, as built up plaque can cause cavities, gum disease, bone loss, and more. The tooth on the left in the x-ray shows bone loss due to gum disease (dark area in the middle.) That tooth needed to be extracted! Removing a tooth can relieve pain, protect surrounding teeth, and help clear an infection.

Do you know your flowers? Spring flowers with bulbs like tulips, daffodils, Narcissus and hyacinths can be particularly dangerous to dogs, especially the skin at the bottom of the bulb. Ingesting these flowers in large amounts can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

While there are some benign species safe for cats, many common lily varieties for spring, including tiger, day, Easter, stargazer, red and wood lilies, are highly toxic to cats. The pollen, leaves, stems and even water from the vase of these lilies can cause severe kidney failure. Signs of lily poisoning include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and seizures.

Make sure to always keep an eye on your pet while around fresh flowers, whether out on a hike, or in your home! 🌷💐🌼🍃

Best,

Your Malibu Coast Animal Hospital family

We wanted to share this info as rattlesnake season is upon us!

This class is one-on-one, and helps dogs understand and avoid the sight, scent, and sound of a rattlesnake. This could be critically important for Southern Californian pups that go on a lot of hikes or outdoor activities with you!

Check it out, and share with others who might be interested!

Aside from being the season of love, February is Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷🪥Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health. Your dog or cat’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian for early signs of problems and to keep your pet’s mouth healthy. Regularly brushing your pet’s teeth at home is the single most effective thing you can do to keep their teeth healthy between dental cleanings, and can go a long way toward helping protect your pet against dental disease and related problems!

Ticks can be a problem during the rainy season. Make sure to check your dog for ticks in the following areas every day, especially after they spend time outdoors. You can do this by running your fingers through your pet’s fur with gentle pressure to feel for any small bumps.

Ticks can carry diseases that can make people and pets sick. If you find a tick, remove it as soon as possible.

Remember to get flea and tick prevention for your pet, such as Nexguard and Bravecto. Talk to your vet about preventatives!

Hi animal-loving community! We just wanted to share information on this beautiful 8-month-old German Shepherd / Lab mix puppy who is looking for a loving home! Huck is currently being fostered by the family who rescued him a month ago. He has a month's worth of professional one-on-one training 🦮, is potty and crate trained, and LOVES all people, kids, dogs; he even tolerates his fosters’ chickens and horses! 🐓🐴 He is SUCH a good, happy puppy! The foster family has an older rescue that needs the majority of their attention, but would keep Huck if they could. They know he deserves his own family!

He also has been neutered, has received all of his vaccinations, and had hip x-rays (all which look great!) ✅

If you or someone you know may be interested in meeting HUCK, please CALL or TEXT his foster parent Sandy at 281-433-5714!

Thank you! 🙏🧡
