We were in Disco's paddock and the question from this young participant was, "Can I give Disco a hug?" To which we replied, "Ask him."

I guess Disco said, "yes"...

Medicine Horse strives to connect people and horses in a way that allows both horse and human to have choices. A common question at the ranch... Are you trying to control yourself or the horse? Kudos to this young man that joined us from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Bushwackers Summer Program in Towaoc. He earned this connection with our therapy horse, Indi.

Our dear therapy horse, Shay, passed away last night. She was a favorite for many youth and adults who needed a gentle, understanding soul to bond with -- she was there for every single one of them. Safe travels, friend. Run with the herd that has gone before. We love you and miss you, sweet Shay...

Here's a shout out to the Mancos 1st Grade for attending 4 sessions this year practicing strategies to get calm, handle big emotions and show kindness to themselves and others. Lifelong lessons we could all use some more practice in. Way to go 1st Grade!

Today and every day at Medicine Horse Center, we have so much to be thankful for.

Thank you to our community for donating, volunteering, and sharing information to support our equine assisted programs, to our staff who bring these programs to life, to our seven dynamic horses who teach us to be calm and present, to the beautiful land between the La Platas and Mesa Verde that sustains us, and to each and every person who has been a part of our programs and demonstrated the curiosity, healing, and growth that inspires our work.

Transitions can be hard, especially transitioning to a new grade or school. Medicine Horse Center continues to offer Transition Programs for 1st graders, 5th and 6th graders, and 8th and 9th graders. Partnering with schools and teachers, together we work to provide students with the confidence and tools they need for a successful transition, setting them up for success. Learning to step away from peer pressure while keeping your eye on your goal is an empowering lesson.
