Peanut's Pet Care offers a 4- week course that covers all the basic commands a dog needs for success! All of our obedience training happens in private one-hour sessions where you learn the exact commands that you want.

Meet Shiloh! She’s popped into posts before, but it’s time for a formal introduction. Shiloh was adopted in August 2020 from Mostly Mutts. At 9 months old, she’d lived her life thus far on the streets, when rescued by a local shelter and transferred to MM. We brought her home, not realizing what we were getting ourselves into. Shiloh, while not a bad dog, knew life scrounging for food and always looking for a way out. She was the epitome of a puppy and fully embodied the level 9-10 energy she was assigned at the rescue. This was John’s first challenge upon bringing a dog home as our first two were easy going and eager to please. We had to child-proof our home and build a new fence (because she could jump the old one), not to mention the number of creative enrichment activities John researched, bought, and even built to keep this active girl happy. It’s almost her gotcha day. Four years she’s been in our life. She has phenomenal recall, knows dozens of commands, and can even be left out while we are gonna without worry she will destroy the house. Why am I introducing her now though? Shiloh has taken on a role in the business, so if you choose to use us, you will meet Shiloh too! Picture #1 is from this morning. Shiloh was helping Peanuts Pet Care. She sat quietly on the sidewalk when asked, she jumped when asked, she ran, she walked, and most importantly she cared way more about the squirrels than the reactive dog across the street. Shiloh has been helping for a few months now to slowly decrease reactivity in other pups. Todays session was especially cute as John and his client were able to be close and she followed every instruction that he gave to the other pup with the cutest little look of pride on her face. Shiloh loves to swim, hike, wrestle, and sleep, but she loves her John more than anything in the world. If you get the chance to meet her, make sure she gets a good pat.

It’s national rescue dog day! All of our dogs are rescues. Shiloh and Frodo (foster fail) both came from Mostly Mutts, a rescue based in Kennesaw, GA. Charlie was adopted and returned to Lifeline three times in a year because of his anxiety based behaviors. We finally brought him home and well, that was 5 years ago.

We still work closely with Mostly Mutts! In fact, John does public group classes with them. Rescue dogs are our favorite dogs. Can you tell?

Pet Tip Tuesday: Owning a pet comes with a lot of responsibilities. One of the biggest is keeping your home safe for them. Not only do you have to make sure there's nothing around that could be unsafe or even toxic to them, but you also need to think about what of yours they could get into or ruin. Check to make sure your plants aren't toxic to your animals, make sure food isn't being left out that they could get into, ensure there aren't ways for them to escape the house. These are just some of the things you need to think about when owning a pet.

Not sure if your home is pet proof for your animals? Reach out to us or speak with your vet to get a second opinion.

Pet Tip Tuesday: Properly socializing your dog from the start will make a world of difference over the life of your dog. But if you've rescued an older dog or just missed this part when they were a puppy, it's never too late to start teaching them how to behave in the world around them. Introducing your dog (correctly) to strangers, other animals, noises, sounds, textures, etc. will play a massive role in how well your dog will behave and handle new things throughout their life.

If you have questions on any aspect of socializing a dog, reach out to us, book a training appointment, and get your dog back on track!

Pet Tip Tuesday: Staying up to date with all of your pets vaccinations is one of the most important aspects of being a pet owner. From the ones they need when they're young and growing, to their regular annual shots, it's very important to stay on stop of them. Most vaccines have a very low chance of a negative reaction as well as a short list of side effects. However if they don't get them you run the risk of your pet catching a deadly disease without a way to get them better as they often kill in a short period of time.

Speak with your vet to ensure your pets have all their current vaccinations and you're aware of their annual shot schedule.

Pet Tip Tuesday: Getting your dog the proper amount of exercise is crucial to their happiness and wellbeing. It's important to learn about the breed you have or would like to have to ensure your lifestyle will fit with their exercise needs. There's many ways to give your dog more exercise than just walks or a backyard to run around in. Hiking, swimming, dog sports, obedience, and even bringing them cycling are all excellent ways to keep you and your dog moving!

If you're not sure if your dog is getting enough exercise, or wants some help on how to increase their exercise in a way that fits your lifestyle, reach out to us - we'll always lend a helping hand.

Pet Tip Tuesday: There are many factors to think about when picking a new toy for your dog or cat. From the size of your pet, to their activity level, to their own preferences they all play a big part in that decision. But we want to make sure we're picking toys that are going to be safe for our pets. If you give your pet a toy that's too small for them, they could choke on it or even swallow it and have it obstruct their digestive system. If the toy is too hard and you have a big chewer, it could damage their teeth. If it breaks apart too easily it could build up in their intenstines and cause a blockage.

Please remember to research and speak with your vet when deciding on what toys would be best for your pet. You want their toys to not only be fun for them, but also be safe.

Pet Tip Tuesday: No one says you need to have a perfectly trained dog to be a good owner. But it is always recommended to at least teach your dogs some basic commands that they consistently practice. Commands like sit, down, staying in their command, not jumping, and how to walk on a leash calmly are crucial for having a healthy relationship with your dog. These commands and more will be able to greatly increase the bond you keep with your dog and help them to be the best that they can be!

If you're interested in learning basic obedience with your dog, please reach out to us, we'd love to help you on your journey. We offer private customized obedience training as well as a pre-written basic obedience course.

Family role call!
Did you know we have 13 pets? 3 dogs, 3 cats, a rat, a leopard gecko, a tarantula, a scorpion, a chameleon, a ball python, and a fish tank (we count this as one)!
Today, we want to introduce you to our three rescue pups. Each of these babies came to us with quite a history and we prioritize them having a safe and engaging life here at the Hay House. Meet Baby Shiloh, a short haired pointer mix with canine dwarfism! She’s our youngest and most active. Charles Sr. is our oldest and prefers lazy days in sun spots or stealing our bed. He’s a mini schnauzer/AST mix. Last, is our newest addition, Frodo Man, a chihuahua/Boston terrier mix with a lot of attitude! Watch out in our posts for little sneak peeks at how we train all three based on their histories and current needs. Or if we just want to share a cute pic or two!

Pet Tip Tuesday: When looking to bring home a new dog, whether from a shelter or a breeder, ensure that you do some breed related research to make sure they'll fit your lifestyle. There are many different breeds and thus many different types of sizes, energy levels, hair length, etc. It wouldn't be fair to you or the dog if you have one join your family and then sone thereafter realise they aren't a good fit because you don't have the energy to keep up with their needs or accomadate their size.

Preventing a breed based return is a very easy task. There are many websites available today that list out the features and needs of every breed. You can even go one step further and consult with a trainer to help you decide on the best dog that would fit your lifestyle. If you or anyone you know is looking to get a new dog and would like some guidance on what breeds would fit your lifestyle, let us help you, message us today.

Happy National Specially-abled pets day! We live and breathe pups over here. So when we visited Scotland last October, it was a no brained when we discovered a “cuddle sesh” at a local animal rescue. Glendrick Roost Animal Sanctuary focuses on special needs animals like our Peanut. Ones missing limbs, eyes, with heart defects, epilepsy, cancer, and more. May 3rd is the National Awareness day for these special animals, but for us it’s every day. While we don’t currently have any specially-abled friends we work with, we are specially trained in a lot of areas and can help out should you need it!

Pet Tip Tuesday: Fitting your dog or cat with proper ID tags is one of the most important things an owner can do to protect their pet. Remember to ensure that all contact information displayed is correct, up to date, and is easily visible if someone were to find your lost pet. Also make sure that both the tag and collar are fitted properly and are in good condition to avoid them coming off of your pet if they were to get lost.

The American Humane Association reports that 1 out of every 3 pets becomes lost at some point in their lifetime and more than 80% of lost pets are never found. Don't let your pets be a part of that 80%, please double check that they have proper ID tags.

Pet Tip Tuesday: Timing is another key factor in your ability to train your dog properly. You need to fully understand exactly when to "mark" a behavior (with a click or verabl marker). If you mark a behavior too early or too late, it will effect how easily and quickly your dog will be able to learn their commands. For example, if you're training your dog to sit, you need to mark their behavior as soon as their butt touches the ground. If you don't get the timing perfectly right, they won't learn the command correctly and might not sit all the way down or immediately get up.

If you're looking to get more help with your timing and other aspects of training your dog, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We can set up a private training sessions at your home and create a personalized training program for you and your dog.

It’s National Lost Dog Awareness Day. 1 /3 of pets will go missing at some point in their life. 80% of those don’t return home. We want to make sure your pup doesn’t go through that. So here’s a few ideas to help keep your family together.

1) Make sure your dog is microchipped and the information is up to date.
2) Keep a collar on with a tag that at minimum has your phone number on it.
3) Double check gates are closed in the backyard and there’s no where to dig under or jump over a fence.
4) Train your dog to only go doors on command to prevent accidental escapes.
5) Train reliable recall so even if they do get out, they come right back when you call their name.

There’s always things you can do on your own, but we are here to help with steps four and five. Check out our link in the bio to set up a training session today. Don’t let your pup be part of that 80%.
