HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE ZALESKI

Today isn’t just any birthday, it’s Laurie’s best birthday ever! She wished for Tucker to be healthy enough to come home. Her wish came true.

We hope her birthday continues to be the best. Her wish couldn’t have come true if it wasn’t for all of you, your love & prayers and maybe Joe, Jody, and Laurie’s mom helping too.

The Funny Farm is a place of miracles. Laurie has pretty much sacrificed all that she has and owns so that these 750 rescue animals can have not just a life, but the happiest life ever! With all of your help, it's a place out of this world.

Thank you Laurie for all you do everyday for so many others.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

LAURIE’S BIRTHDAY WISH

If you don’t believe in miracles, this dog named Tucker may just change your mind. He went to the hospital with aspiration, pneumonia.

It’s the scariest thing when a dog is normal, but when he has Megaesophagus, like Tucker, it can be deadly. You have all followed our updates every day anxiously awaiting any good news we could report.

Today, Laurie’s one and only birthday wish came true…Tucker came home!!!

There has never been so much happiness and tears as there is tonight! Thank you all for your love and prayers for Tucker!!!

The entire farm, every single animal knows he is home and they are all cheering like you’ve never seen! The birds are flying. The horses are running, and donkeys are hee hawing!

Tomorrow is Laurie’s Birthday. She says that all she wants for her birthday is Tucker to come home from the hospital. We...

Tomorrow is Laurie’s Birthday. She says that all she wants for her birthday is Tucker to come home from the hospital. We don’t have an update for today but he has been steadily improving from pneumonia.

Maybe her wish can come true. It would be a true Funny Farm miracle!

Thank you Cindy Lewis for this great picture of Laurie and her little shadow named Tucker.

(((( TUCKER UPDATE - July 31, 2024 ))))

We know many of you check Facebook several times a day hoping for a Tucker update. We can’t tell you how much we love you all and what a huge difference you make in the life of Tucker and his 750 brothers and sisters.

Laurie was able to see Tucker tonight in the hospital. She has special visiting hours each night and just got home from a long day of work and spending long-awaited and cherished time with her boy.

Tonight’s news is much much better than we expected. Tucker did have pneumonia in his lungs so this was a huge deal for a Megaesophagus dog. He still has it but it’s improving every day. Doctors feel he’s moving in the right direction.

Tonight, Tucker is more alert and happy than he has been in several days. He even ate his real food 4X today. As you can see, he’s still on oxygen and it’s helping a lot. No gurgling sounds were heard in his lungs so the antibiotics are helping immensely. He was very happy to see his mom and knows he’s getting better and everyone is helping him.

Thank you so much for the kind words, texts, phone calls, comments, likes and love that you have all sent. There isn’t one comment Laurie doesn’t read. She truly appreciates all of your love at such a scary time. Times like this makes you appreciate what matters most in life.

All we can say is THANK YOU!

(((( TUCKER UPDATE ))))

We know many of you have been anxiously awaiting to hear how Tucker is doing. This was as early as we could post. Laurie just got home from the hospital.

Laurie was able to see Tucker tonight at the University of Penn. Although it is difficult to see your boy with oxygen tubes and IV’s and a horrible cone, doctors say he is improving.

Tucker’s lung functions are critical. He is still on oxygen and needs to be so his body can heal.

Laurie feels so bad for him. She’s his mom and it’s the closest relationship she’s ever had with an animal. And that’s saying something considering she has saved literally thousands of animals throughout her life.

Thank you for all the positive thoughts and prayers. They are working. Laurie and Tucker both have a sense of calm. With all of the love she’s receiving from all of you, she can’t help but feel its powerful effects.

Tomorrow, she will see him again and every moment without him seems like an eternity.

Tucker

One of the most famous and loved dogs on the planet is in the hospital. Over the past few days, Tucker has developed a gurgling sound in his lungs, shown little interest in eating, and been lethargic. He is 6 1/2 years old.

This morning, Laurie rushed him to the best veterinarian hospital around at University of Pennsylvania Ryan Veterinary Center. They immediately put him on oxygen to help his breathing and with some testing found some fluid in his lungs.

Laurie waited all day and was able to see him and he looked so happy to see her. They want to keep him for a day or two or three. We don’t know yet. They are doing further tests to see the best way to remove the fluid from his lungs and get him better. With megaesophagus dogs, aspirating is a big concern. This is the first time he’s had an episode of this nature.

Laurie will visit him tomorrow and we hope for the best news. Tonight, when she left him, she said, “Mommy has to go to work” - and he went right back into his oxygen chamber.

This is probably harder on Laurie than it is on Tucker. Through a million tears, she said they are in the right place and this hospital has all of the latest imaging and equipment to help Tucker. They are not cheap but they are the best around, and she trusts them.

She asked if she could bring his chair and food, but due to his lack of interest in eating, they are feeding him through his veins and they are giving him some medicine.

Please keep Laurie & Tucker in your thoughts & prayers.

She is counting the minutes till she can see him again. This is going to be a long night for both of them.

Although she does not have a favorite animal among her 750 rescues, Tucker is definitely it. He’s her shadow.

He’s her #1.

“Vanco’s Special Chair”

Dogs take away our pain.

Meet Leah. She had a German Shepherd named Vanco who she loved more than life itself. At around 2 years old, he developed Megaesophagus.

Leah went to every veterinarian & specialist on the planet trying to get answers in hopes of giving her pup the best life possible.

Despite all of the conflicting advice she received, she never gave up. This was her dog and she was determined to learn all she could to help her dog that she loved so much. She spents hours, days, weeks, and months learning all she could. One thing she knew she needed was a Bailey Chair.

So she built one.

She built the Taj Mahal of Bailey Chairs!

Vanco somehow knew his mom saved his life and their bond was even more special. He knew his mom loved him and the chair worked. Each meal was a bonding experience and brought them closer. He was her absolute best friend.

Sadly, Vanco passed away from bone cancer at just 5 years old. It was the hardest thing to say goodbye. But those 5 years were the most wonderful years Leah has ever had. The memories he left her with will be cherished forever. His chair was also very special, after all, she built it.

Nearly 3 years passed and Leah knows that Vanco lived his life to make her smile and bring her so much happiness. She misses him beyond words. It was him who led her to help another dog much like him. She kept the chair, until it was time and she knew the time was now. In fact, focusing on helping another dog has made her feel good and even took away some of her pain.

Vanco must have known that Jack at the Funny Farm needed a Bailey Chair. He has the same Megaesophagus condition. Although we have a 3rd chair, it’s for a small dog, no where near the size of Jack. Leah posted on Facebook about her chair and in almost every direction came the same comment, “call the Funny Farm!”

And that’s exactly what she did.

She talked to Laurie for 1/2 hour and is hoping one day of starting an animal rescue of her own. They just connected like they knew each other forever.

Today, Leah showed up at the Funny Farm with her special chair. We can only imagine how hard this was for her. The chair that was a huge piece of her life with her wonderful dog Vanco. When she opened her Jeep, Jack and Jesse could not contain their excitement.

And it’s the perfect size for Jack!

What are the chances in a million years this would happen? How can this be explained? Now, Leah and Vanco’s chair will help to give a wonderful life to a dog named Jack.

Leah didn’t want money. She just wanted to help.

And she did.

In a huge huge way.

Vanco will always be a part of her life, and now ours.

Thank you Leah! You have made the world a better place. Not only are you a huge animal lover, you also have a huge and beautiful heart!

And the world will never be the same.

We love this wonderful group of amazing people! Thank you all.

Every week, our Arsareth Academy youth members volunteer at the Funny Farm Rescue.
One of our favorite parts is getting our work done with others who share in our initiatives and care to make a meaningful impact in our communities.
Last week, we had the pleasure of working alongside this great team, IGT, that visited the farm and delved right into helping the animals and volunteers; offering their help wherever it was needed.
They were all so kind and did everything with a smile!
Afterward, they pleasantly surprised us with pizza, snacks, and refreshments!
Such a sweet end to an awesome day; and a great, unexpected reward for all the wonderful work we volunteers, especially these little ones, do to care for these animals on a regular basis.
Thank you all again, IGT Gaming, and we look forward to your next visit!
