Founded in 1952, the Brevard Humane Society is the oldest established animal welfare organization in the area. A "no kill for space" shelter, the Humane Society is dedicated to "speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves". We educate the community on responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals, advocate for spaying/neutering to reduce the homeless pet population, and provide the best quality care to Brevard's abandoned animals by placing them with responsible, caring families in "forever" homes. The Humane Society believes this to be essential to achieving their purpose of humane care & treatment of all animals, and to succeed in becoming a "no kill" community. “Low Cost” Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic Thousands of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized each year in Brevard County because there simply are not enough homes for them all… the Brevard Humane Society is working to change that. There is no question that spaying and neutering saves lives, and the Humane Society is doing its part to end pet overpopulation in our community by offering a “low cost” spaying/neutering service to the public for their pets, in a way of a spay/neuter and wellness clinic. By providing spay/neuter surgeries at an inexpensive rate, this veterinary clinic will help pet owners who are unable to afford this type of surgery, which can cost hundreds of dollars. Along with spaying/neutering, this facility will also provide annual vaccinations for cats and dogs, heartworm prevention plans, deworming, ear cleaning, nail trims, microchipping, pet care products (Advantage II, Comfortis, Frontline Plus, Heartgard, NexGard, Seresto Collars, Trifexis and Tritak), and testing for heartworms and FeLV/FIV (limited lab services available). The facility measures 2,500 square feet and has been outfitted with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. It is located directly behind the shelter in Cocoa, and it is open Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (surgery days), and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. for wellness. To schedule an appointment for your pet, call (321) 636-3343 ext. 206 or [email protected]. Making Arrangements When a pet passes away, times are difficult enough without having to worry about the final arrangements for your dearly loved companion. We offer prearranged euthanasia, cremation and chapel services to help ease the stress of a difficult moment in your life. Our compassionate staff will assist you in choosing the best services, and provide comforting support while you plan a dignified and peaceful passing for your beloved pet. The Loss of a Pet This can be one of the most difficult times for an individual to cope with in their life. The Brevard Humane Society understands this and is here to provide your beloved animal companion a painless and dignified experience at the end of their life. Most owners consider their pets to be members of their family, and well over half spend more time taking their pets to the veterinarian than going to the doctor for themselves. Given the rich and intense relationships most pet owners share with their animal companions, the loss of a pet can be very painful. It can trigger overwhelming feelings of grief and sadness, trouble sleeping, weight loss may occur, feeling tired all the time or have difficulty focusing on anything. Your feelings might surprise you, but should not if you consider all of the things your animal companion brought to your life, chief among them “love and affection”. For more information, contact the Brevard Humane Society at (321) 636-3343 ext: 208 or [email protected]. * The Association for Pet Loss & Bereavement is a professionally organization of trained counselors that handle the passing of a pet. Their services are FREE and available to anyone bereaving for a beloved pet.
